Digital imaging company Canon India Tuesday said it has stepped into the surveillance domain with a new range of intelligent network cameras.

The company expects 5 percent of its India business to come from this category in the next two years. “Canon is entering the surveillance market at the right time with the need for intelligent cameras and analytics growing and evolving at a fast pace,” President and Chief Executive Canon India, Kazutada Kobayashi said.

“We are expecting the network video surveillance range to contribute 5 percent of the total business of Canon India in the next 2 years,” he added.

The portfolio will come in four series – S, H, M and R – which will include both indoor and outdoor cameras. “The new high performance network cameras are ideal for a wide variety of indoor and outdoor environment, including retail, city surveillance and critical infrastructure monitoring,” the company said in a statement.

The importance of video surveillance has moved from just security to providing turnkey solutions using various applications and their integration with the ecosystem, it added.

Further, with the advent of smart cities that are already planned, the need for surveillance is expected to grow further in India.

“With our venture into this new domain, we are aiming to capture 10 percent share in IP surveillance space by the end of 2018,” VP – Business Imaging Solutions Division, Canon India, K Bhaskhar said.

The enhanced Canon network cameras are specially crafted to deliver improved visual detection, image capture and intelligence to meet new surveillance needs, the company said.
