Samsung is unlikely to unveil its new Galaxy Note 8 until later next month but the firm may have given its army of loyal followers an early glimpse of this latest device.

The Korean tech firm has just tweeted an image of a mysterious device and it’s got fans in a flap that it could be the first look at the Note 8.

The photo was posted on Twitter with the words “Do what you want. #Exynos will get things done,” and is aimed publicising this latest own-brand processor.

These brains are included in some versions of the Galaxy S8, however, the image in the tweet is not Samsung’s current flagship.

As soon as the photo was published, Samsung Note fans began speculating that Samsung has published the first look at the new Note 8.

One Twitter user commented, “It’s Note 8 wow how wonderful infinity design.”

Whilst another added, “If this is the Note8, god damn Samsung! It is very beautiful!”

There’s no confirmation if this image is the new Note 8 but it would certainly confirm rumours that the device is going to feature an edge-to-edge curved Infinity display.

The sensors at the top of the image also show how the new facial recognition could feature.

However, one thing that may disprove this image is a leaked Note 8 is the fact there’s no buttons on the side of the phone.

Even with the latest technology allowing for more interactions via the display, the Note 8 would still need some function switches, such as power and volume, on the side of the phone.

Although this latest image may not turn out to be the Note 8 there’s certainly plenty for fans of the series to be excited about.

This giant phablet looks set to be one of the most powerful smartphones ever made with features including a dual-lens camera, huge battery and updated S Pen with improved performance.

Sadly, it seems all of this technology could come at a price with the Note 8 expected to cost over $1,000.

This would make it one of the most expensive smartphones ever created.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Renders Leaked Alongside Video, Dual Rear Camera Setup Tipped

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is one of the most anticipated smartphones of the year, and not necessarily for all the right reasons. After the debacle of last year’s Galaxy Note 7recall, the successor has a lot to redeem. The smartphone has been leaked on several occasions in the past, and fresh leaks show us a full blown look at the Galaxy Note 8 from all angles.

OnLeaks in collaboration with 91Mobiles has publishedrenders, a 360 degree CAD video, and some additional information about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. According to the render, the most notable change is the horizontal dual camera setup at the back with the fingerprint scanner located right beside in the top centre at the back. If true, this would be the first dual camera smartphone from Samsung. The back is made from glass, and the bottom edge is seen sporting the USB Type-C port, the speaker grille, the S Pen slot, and the 3.5mm audio jack. The volume and Bixby keys are both situated at the left edge of the device, and the power key is sitting alone at the right edge.

The front sports an almost bezel-less display barring the top chin where all the sensors and earpiece are located. The edge screen is still intact, and the phone sports a Black colour variant, however the report says that the smartphone will launch in Blue and Gold colour variants as well. The phone is reportedly also expected to be slightly thicker than the predecessor with 162.4×74.5×8.4mm dimensions, while the the Note 7’s measurements were 153.5×73.9×7.9mm. Perhaps this decision will not squeeze the battery as it had in the now infamous Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is said to feature a 6.3-inch display with 18.5:9 aspect ratio and support for 2K resolution. The dual camera setup on the Galaxy Note 8 is expected to sport two 12-megapixel sensors and come with independent OIS (optical image stabilisation) for each lens. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been tipped to pack 6GB of RAM and be powered by Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 SoC (depending on the market). It is expected to house a 3300mAh battery, which is notably less than the 3500mAh battery on Galaxy S8+. However, after the explosion cases that were caused due to battery last year, reducing battery capacity might not be the worst of ideas. The battery will support fast charging and wireless charging.

The Galaxy Note 8 is tipped to support split-screen multitasking, the ability to pin notes to the Always-On Display, and the DeX dock. As per a recent news report, the South Korean company might launch the smartphone in late September at a price tag of EUR 999 (roughly Rs. 72,100).

Seven-year-old girl manages to trick teachers and escape school with forged note scrawled on scrap paper

A seven-year-old girl from Texas successfully used a forged note to get out of school, much to her parents’ surprise.

Rosabella Dahu was due to attend an after-school programme at Sheldon Elementary school in Houston, but was granted permission to get on a bus and go home after presenting teachers with the impromptu excuse.

The note said: “I want Rosabella to go too dus 131 today. To: Ms Reign”.

Despite writing the letter on a scrap piece of paper from her school notebook and including mistakes such as a backwards letter ‘b’, Ms Dahu managed to fool her teachers and leave the school unaccompanied.

The second grader’s father, Charlie Dahu, said he received a phone call on Monday afternoon from a concerned neighbour, who told him his daughter was waiting outside her locked up family home.

“she came to ask my wife to use the restroom and that’s when I figured there was something wrong,” the neighbour said.

Mr Dahu rushed home to meet his daughter, telling US news platform UPI that he was “shaking” and “scared” about his daughter being left unattended.

“You can clearly see she did not even spell the word ‘bus’ right,” said Mr Dahu, adding that he planned to transfer his daughter to a new school.

“Obviously they didn’t have proper procedures in place, this is clearly the school’s fault,” he said. “How a seven-year-old can trick you, it boggles my mind.”

Sheldon Elementary issued a statement to say the situation was being investigated.

A spokesperson said: “We are reviewing our training procedures to ensure that our after-school grant program [sic] staff is properly trained in dismissal procedures.”

“At this point, the district is continuing to investigate and will take proper disciplinary action. As always, student safety is our top priority.“

Meizu M3 Note launched with beefy battery and modest price

Meizu Technology officially launched the M3 Note. For the 16 GB storage and 2 GB memory model, the price is RMB 799 (Rs 8,200); and for the 32 GB storage and 3 GB memory model, the price is RMB 999(Rs 10,300). There are three colour options: silver, gray, and golden. The older M2 Note is available for Rs 6,999 while the latest iteration will go on sale on April 11 in China.

Meizu M3 Note’s physical home button is integrated with the fingerprint recognition function which is an upgrade from its predecessor, M2 Note. The entire fingerprint-based unlock operation can be completed within 0.2s. The home button is integrated with the three major functions, that is, touch-to-return, fingerprint-based unlock, and fingerprint-based payment.

The screen measures in at 5.5-inch, 1080P full HD and full lamination with the 2.5D curved glass.

The rear camera has 13 megapixels and supports the PDAF phase focusing, which is mainly supported by flagship mobile phones. The front camera has 5 megapixels and is equipped with the F/2.0 large aperture to squeeze more into on frame.

Meizu m3 runs Helio P10 processor with the highest basic frequency reaches 1.8 GHz. The processor and choice of 2 GB or 3 GB RAM runs the Flyme 5 system, which is deeply optimized based on the Android L. The 4,100 mAh battery should last you more than a day, but we’ll have to test it out to find out the real world capabilities.

There is an option for MicroSD card for expansion of memory. Therefore, storage capacity is no longer a limitation.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro is expected to be the Chinese phone maker’s next offering in its affordable Redmi smartphone series. We have heard a lot of chatter around the smartphone in the rumour mill in the past, but now have a closer look at its details thanks to alleged live images of the smartphone and its retail box. The Redmi Note 6 Pro is expected to sport a 6.26-inch Full Screen display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and possible 1080×2280 pixels resolution, which could mean that the Redmi Note 5 Pro could end up sporting a display notch.

Other specifications listed on the smartphone’s protective film, as spotted on Reddit, reveal a dual selfie camera setup with a 20-megapixel primary and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. At the back, the Redmi Note 6 Pro will allegedly sport a 12-megapixel primary camera sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary unit. The handset is expected to get a 4,000mAh battery under the hood, with support for some sort of fast charging – our bet would be on Quick Charge 4.0. Additionally, we could expect USB Type-C on the smartphone, but Xiaomi might just stick with Micro-USB as it has with all of its recent Redmi-branded handsets.

Yet another leak, this time courtesy GlobeMobiles, gives us a look at what is supposed to be the back of a retail box of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro. The box lists the above-mentioned specifications along with mentioning that the phone will be made available in a Black colour option and 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage configuration. A report from last month however claims that there will also be an entry-level 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage option for users to choose from.

The same report from last month had alleged that the Redmi Note 6 Pro would be priced anywhere between EUR 200 and EUR 250 (Rs. 16,900 to Rs. 21,100) for European markets, and be launched with a cheaper price tag in other markets like India where the predecessor Redmi Note 5 Pro has a starting price tag of just Rs. 14,999. The Redmi Note 6 Pro could get a premium 6GB RAM variant in India and China, and be sold in Black, Blue, and Gold colour variants.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is set to launch next week but you don’t have to wait for that to reserve the flagship. The Galaxy Note 9 will be launched at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on August 9, but countless leaks and rumours over the past few months have already hinted at most of the features of the upcoming phablet. The South Korean giant has probably realised that many interested buyers can’t wait to get their hands on the Galaxy Note 9, and as a result, it is offering reservations to be put down for “the latest Galaxy smartphone.” Previous reports have indicated that the Galaxy Note 9 may go on sale on August 24 and if you want to be one of the first people to buy the handset, you can reserve it right now.

Samsung will be hosting an event next Thursday to officially launch the “next Galaxy smartphone.” Most of the specifications and pricing details of the Galaxy Note 9 have been leaked via multiple sources and there’s a lot to be excited about the upcoming handset. As spotted by Droid Life, you can reserve the Galaxy Note 9 to ensure a guaranteed delivery on August 24. You can go to Samsung’s siteor its app on Google Play Store, and submit your name, email ID, and carrier model of choice to reserve the smartphone. By doing so, you will get early access to pre-orders and Samsung promises a guaranteed delivery the day it goes on sale. As of now, the offer is limited to the US.

Notably, this is just a reservation and not a pre-order for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Users do not have to pay for anything right now, as the process is just meant to ensure that they have a handset reserved for delivery on launch day. Also, on the site and the app, Samsung has mentioned an exchange offer that gives a discount of up to $450 (roughly Rs. 30,800) on the Galaxy Note 9. However, the company has not listed the price, storage options, and colour variants.

Coming to the colour variants, a new report suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will not come in a Grey colour variant. Several previous reports had suggested that the Galaxy Note 9 will arrive in Black, Blue, Copper, Lavender, and Grey colour options. A tipster on Twitter has suggested that Samsung has probably cancelled the “Grey/ Silver version of the Galaxy Note 9.” Notably, there is no official confirmation of the report. We can expect more details to surface in the days leading up to the launch, which is when Samsung will unveil its latest flagship globally.

To recall what we know so far based on previous leaks, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 could come with an upgraded display and an improved S Pen. A recent Geekbench listing highlighted that the handset will be powered by an Exynos 9820 SoC, though it was initially speculated to have the same Exynos 9810 SoC that debuted on the Galaxy S9 family earlier this year and its US version is likely to have the Snapdragon 845 SoC.

It is also rumoured that Samsung will offer a 512GB storage option this year to give plenty of space to the Galaxy Note 9 users. Further, the new Galaxy Note model could come in multiple colour options and new colour combination to attract users. It is also expected to have an upgraded dual rear camera setup and a larger battery than what was found on the Galaxy Note 8. Past rumours have also indicated that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will come with a 6.4-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Samsung is also expected to offer an upgraded dual rear camera setup on the Galaxy Note 9 with a list of new features to optimise images and videos.

Redmi S2 debuted in China on Thursday after much anticipation. The new Xiaomi smartphone, which is the first Redmi S series handset, is claimed to be the “best Redmi selfie phone”. The Redmi S2 also has a bunch of artificial intelligence (AI) features that are aimed at distinguishing the experience. These features help enhance shots and enable Xiaomi’s proprietary Xiao Ai voice assistant. Also, the handset includes a thin-bezel display and a Face Unlock feature that both are currently in trend. But interestingly, the price of Redmi S2 brings it to the segment that already has Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5. That same segment also has the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 as a strong contender. Similarly, there is the Honor 9 Lite that is facing heat from the Redmi Note 5 and ZenFone Max Pro M1 but competing against various other models available under the ultra-popular sub-Rs. 15,000 price bracket in India.

Here’s a comparison of the Redmi S2 with that of the Redmi Note 5, ZenFone Max Pro M1, and Honor 9 Lite.

Both variants will go on sale in China on May 17 via Suning.com in three colour options, namely Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, and Rose Gold. Details about the price and availability of the Redmi S2 in India haven’t yet been revealed.

The Redmi Note 5 price in India starts at Rs. 9,999 for the 3GB RAM, 32GB storage variant, while its 4GB RAM, 64GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 11,999. Both Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 variants come in Black, Gold, Lake Blue, and Rose Gold colour options and are available for purchase in India via Flipkart, Mi Home, and Mi.com. It will also soon go on sale through Xiaomi’s offline retail partners.

The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 price in India starts at Rs. 10,999 for 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage variant, whereas its 4GB RAM, 64GB storage model is available at Rs. 12,999. The handset comes in Midnight Black and Grey colour options. It is available for purchase exclusively through Flipkart.

Lastly, the Honor 9 Lite price in India starts at Rs. 10,999 for the 3GB RAM, 32GB storage variant, while its 4GB RAM, 64GB variant comes with a price tag of Rs. 14,999. Both are available for purchase via Flipkart and the Honor India Store. The ZenFone handset comes in Sapphire Blue, Midnight Black, Glacial Grey colour options.

The dual-SIM (Nano) Xiaomi Redmi S2 runs Android-based MIUI 9 and features a 5.99-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display with 70.8 percent NTSC colour gamut. Under the hood, there is a Snapdragon 625 SoC, coupled with either 3GB or 4GB RAM – depending on the model purchased. The smartphone has a dual rear camera setup that comprises a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. There is an LED flash, and the camera setup supports features such as AI Portrait mode, HDR, and facial recognition. On the front, the Redmi S2 has a 16-megapixel sensor that has 2-micron pixel size – combining four pixels into one pixel. The front camera also supports AI Portrait Mode, AI Smart Beauty, Front HDR, and Face Unlock.

For storing content, the Redmi S2 has 32GB and 64GB storage options that both are expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB) via a dedicated card slot. The smartphone has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB port. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, infrared, and a proximity sensor. Besides, the smartphone packs a 3080mAh battery and measures 160.73×77.26×8.1mm.

The dual-SIM Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 runs Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 and features a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 84 percent NTSC colour gamut. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC, coupled with either 3GB or 4GB RAM. For taking pictures and recording videos, the Redmi Note 5 has a single, 12-megapixel camera sensor on the back with an f/2.2 aperture lens and an LED flash. The front of the smartphone bears a 5-megapixel sensor that has an LED selfie-light module. The front camera supports features such as Beautify 3.0 beautification tech.

Xiaomi has provided 32GB and 64GB storage options on the Redmi Note 5 that both are expandable via microSD card in a hybrid dual-SIM format. On the connectivity front, the handset has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB. The smartphone packs a 4000mAh battery and measures 158.5×75.45×8.05mm.

In contrast, the dual-SIM (Nano) Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 runs pure Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and is claimed to receive Android P and Android Q upgrades. The handset features a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) IPS FullView display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. It comes with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, paired with Adreno 509 GPU and either 3GB or 4GB RAM. The smartphone has a dual camera setup on the back that includes a 13-megapixel primary Omnivision sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensing sensor. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, 85.5-degree wide-angle lens. Both camera setups have an LED flash.

In terms of storage, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 has up to 64GB of onboard storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB). The smartphone has 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB. Besides, it packs a 5000mAh battery and measures 159x76x8.46mm.

Contrary to the Redmi S2, Redmi Note 5, and ZenFone Max Pro M1, the dual-SIM (Nano) Honor 9 Lite runs Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 and features a 5.65-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone has an octa-core Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 659 SoC, coupled with 3GB or 4GB RAM. Asus has provided four cameras on the Honor 9 Lite that sit on the front and back as dual camera setups. Both have a 13-megapixel primary camera sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary camera. On the back, there is also an LED flash and a PDAF lens.

On the storage front, the Honor 9 Lite has 32GB and 64GB storage options – both of which are expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration. The smartphone has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB. Sensors on the handset include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, magnetometer (digital compass), and a proximity sensor. At last, the Honor 9 Lite packs a 3000mAh battery and measures 151×71.9×7.6mm.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Orchid Gray Colour Variant Launched in India

Samsung India on Tuesday announced the launch of its last year’s Galaxy Note 8 smartphone in Orchid Gray colour. The South Korean giant had launched the Galaxy Note 8 in India in September 2018, within weeks of its global unveiling. Initially, the handsets were available in Maple Gold and Midnight Black colour variants. But now, the company has unveiled an Orchid Gray model of the Galaxy Note 8.

The Orchid Gray colour variant of the Galaxy Note 8 comes just a month after Samsung launched its latest flagships – Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ – in the market. Recently, the company also launched a special edition Burgundy Red variant of the Galaxy S8 as well. Samsung says that the Galaxy Note 8’s Infinity Display, S Pen, and dual cameras “wowed consumers across the country”.

“The classy and suave Orchid Gray colour will give consumers another great reason to buy Galaxy Note8 and express their own personal style,” said Aditya Babbar, General Manager, Mobile Business, Samsung India.

Coming to pricing, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Orchid Gray variant, along with the other models, is priced at Rs. 67,990. Also, Samsung is offering an additional cashback of Rs. 10,000 if buyers pay via Paytm at the retail stores. Notably, the Orchid Gray variant of Samsung Galaxy S8 will be available for sale starting from April 17.

To recall some of the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has received the Android 8.0 Oreoupdate, with the company’s own customisations on top. The smartphone sports a 6.3-inch QHD+ (1440×2960 pixels) Super AMOLED Infinity Display. The Galaxy Note 8 is powered by a Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC coupled with 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features a dual rear camera setup, complete with Dual OIS (optical image stabilisation). This consists of one 12-megapixel sensor coupled with a wide-angle lens, Dual Pixel autofocus, and an f/1.7 aperture. The second sensor is also a 12-megapixel offering, paired with a telephoto lens, and an f/2.4 aperture. On the front, Samsung has chosen to use an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with an aperture of f/1.7.

The smartphone is ony available its 64GB built-in storage variant in India, expandable via microSD card(up to 256GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration. Also, the Galaxy Note 8 is fuelled by a 3300mAh battery.

Redmi Note 5 Pro: A Pro that actually isn’t

Xiaomi released the Red Note 5 Pro in the Indian market. Luckily, we got one on our hands to try out. The smartphone comes equipped with a spanking new Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset with an Adreno 509 GPU. But we will get to that part later. Let’s first list out the whats and wheres.

Display on this phone is a 18:9 ratio 2160×1080 p resolutions, which makes it a HD+ display unit. But there are still massive bezels, both top and bottom. The top bezel has a 24 MP Sony built sensor for a camera with an LED selfie light assist. The back camera is a dual 12 + 5 MP camera setup. Note 5 Pro comes equipped with a 4000 MAh battery, which is surprisingly efficient. The operating system on this phone is a Mi O9 standard which gives it all the Mi smart features that are available on their entire line up of phones. In addition to the standard app running, this phone has new features like dual app running mode and a reading mode.

There is a consensus in the tech space in India, that the Red Note 5 Pro should have been the upgrade to the Redmi Note 4, and we totally agree. The Note 5 was a needless and pointless “slip in” that the Xiaomi treated as a transition device.

Coming back to the new chipset that occupies the core of this phone, Snapdragon 636 is not a good bet. Like most new tech, this chipset has flaws that were either ignored or were just put in to test it out in the market real time. The reason we say this is, because the 636 heats up. And that is when the manufacturer has saved it from functional loads. And there in lies the biggest bummer. This phone DOES NOT SUPPORT FAST CHARGE. And this phone DOES NOT HAVE 4K VIDEO SHOOTING CAPABILITY. Read that in caps and bold.

What it does have is better “bump up” on the optics. Meaning a decent amount of dynamic range on the rear cameras, in addition to the “almost as good as One Plus 5T” portrait mode quality. We would also like to agree that this camera gave better selfie results than the 5T. But the camera function of this phone is not quite 10/10. The camera app UI is still the “same old …albiet outdated.” This is a phone that sports the Pro badge but sadly doesn’t have a “Pro Mode” built in the camera UI. Tsk Tsk.

The 4000 MAh battery performs okay, with an average of 7~ 8 hours of continuous “screen on” time. So the battery should last you almost a full day of usage. Though in the year 2018, it still doesn’t support fast charge. Meh.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro is supposed to be the upgrade of the Redmi Note 5, which was the upgrade to the Redmi Note 4. Funnily enough, (yes, funnily. Conscious effort has been put in using that term), the Redmi Note 5 Pro doesn’t support 4K video shooting. Its restricted to 1080P. The younger sibling, Redmi Note 5, is the smarter one of the lot, as it does have 4K Video. So maybe calling Note 5 Pro an upgrade might be an over statement!?

One last thing that also stood out in the list of “Don’t have” is the fact that this phone is still rocking the hybrid SIM tray. That wasn’t a good idea when the hybrid slot came out, it surely isn’t any better now, specially in the day & age we live in. I don’t understand how much of cost cutting do companies that give hybrid slots achieve by doing so. Its literally a matter of few millimetres of aluminium. Talking of cost cutting, maybe you, can also cost cut, buying this phone. There are two variants with the following configuration.

4 GB RAM + 64 GB internal space which costs INR 13999/- 6 GB RAM + 64 GB internal space which costs INR 16999/-

So go ahead and save some money and buy a One Plus 5T instead.
