Grand Theft Auto remaster gameplay footage leaks online

Gameplay footage from Rockstar’s upcoming remaster of its PS2-era Grand Theft Auto trilogy has appeared online, after gameplay footage was apparently uploaded from early copies. VGC has collected together three YouTube uploads and one Reddit post, which between them show over an hour of footage of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Although Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition is just one day away from release, Rockstar hasn’t shared any substantial gameplay footage from the remastered games. A trailer released last month focused almost exclusively on cutscenes from the three games rather than the gameplay enhancements Rockstar is promising for the almost two-decade-old trilogy.

But these leaked gameplay clips give a much better idea of how these remasters will actually play. They show off the games’ new weapon selection wheel UI, which they’ve inherited from later GTA games, and give an idea of how the Grand Theft Auto V-inspired controls actually work in practice. One of the Vice City clips appears to include footage of the player activating a cheat code and spawning in a tank (check it out from roughly the 16:10 mark below).

Other promised enhancements include overhauled graphics, better navigation via the games’ mini maps, and modern quality of life features like Achievements and Trophies on Xbox and PlayStation respectively. On Switch the game will feature motion-controlled aiming and touchscreen controls, and on PC the games will be compatible with Nvidia’s DLSS tech.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition will officially launch digitally tomorrow, November 11th, for $59.99 (£54.99) and will be available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and newer Series X/S consoles, and PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher. A physical release is coming on December 7th, while iOS and Android versions are launching in the first half of next year.

Cryptocurrency Exchange Theft Surges in First Half of 2018: CipherTrace

Theft of cryptocurrencies from exchanges soared in the first half of this year to three times the level seen for the whole of 2017, leading to a three-fold increase in associated money laundering, according to a report from US-based cyber-security firm CipherTrace released on Tuesday.

The report, which looks at the global anti-money laundering market, showed that in the first six months of the year a total of $761 million (roughly Rs. 5,200 crores) was stolen from digital currency exchanges, compared with about $266 million (roughly Rs. 1,800 crores) for the whole of 2017.

The losses could rise to 1.5 billion this year, estimated CipherTrace, which is launching a software to help exchanges and hedge funds that use or trade cryptocurrencies comply with anti-money laundering laws.

“Stolen cryptocurrencies are three times bigger this year than last year so the trend is obviously not our friend here,” Dave Jevans, chief executive officer of CipherTrace, told Reuters in an interview.

Jevans is also the chairman of the Anti-Phishing Working Group, a global organization that aims to help solve cybercrime.

He added that stolen virtual currencies end up being laundered to help criminals hide their true identities and avoid arrest, which has resulted in a three-fold rise in money laundering of cryptocurrencies.

The most recent theft from a cryptocurrency exchange was the $32 million (roughly Rs. 214 crores) in digital currencies stolen from South Korean exchange Bithumb.

The surge in cryptocurrency crime has attracted the attention of global regulators and law enforcement, Jevans said.

For instance, the report also cited concerns about rising criminal activity in the sector from the US Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), which referred to cryptocurrency-denominated ransomware payments and research showing that $1.5 billion (roughly Rs. 10,3000 crores) was stolen in hacks of exchanges over a two-year period.

Jevans said regulators around the world, global law enforcement and exchanges have been in continuous dialogue about what needs to happen in the cryptocurrency industry to prevent the surge in crime.

“Now we are seeing the big guys coming together asking for cryptocurrency anti-money laundering regulation – it is inevitable, it will be unified, and it will be global,” he added.
