Kickass Torrents Lives Again; Allegedly Reincarnated by Original Staffers

Torrent Website Kickass Torrents has been brought to life again. The website has reportedly been reincarnated by the website’s original staffers. The website was seized earlier this year after alleged ringleader Artem Vaulin was arrested in Poland and the domains of the website were seized. The website however never died entirely thanks to clone websites.

Torrent Freak reports that Kickass Torrents is now fully operational and maintains the original look. The website currently has a clean user database and appears to include original staff members. We tried accessing the new website and it finally loaded after few attempts which indicate that the website is now under tremendous traffic.

“The majority of our original Staff, Admins and Moderation team joined us after Kat.cr went down – which is something we’re very proud of. This shows the loyalty, dedication and real love for KAT that we all share,” the Kickass Torrents team told TorrentFreak. The team added that they faced several issues in putting the website again in working condition. However, this time around the team has made additional efforts to just keep “safe elements”.”We have all our major uploaders on board and they continued to share tirelessly even before the torrent engines returned. The torrent community can continue to expect to see uploads from all the names they know and trust,” added the team.

 The team pointed that they now come under a similar takedown procedure as YouTube which means that Kickass Torrents won’t store copyrighted material on the website.

“In order to keep our members safe we chose to rebuild and keep only safe elements. Despite the fact that a rebuild took longer, the safety of our community comes first,” the team said.

TorrentHound Shuts Down Voluntarily, Joins Kickass Torrents and Torrentz.eu

It seems like online piracy has left its glory days behind, as another major player -TorrentHound – has finally decided to call it quits. After Kickass Torrents and Torrentz.eu, TorrentHound has become the third torrent website to bite the dust this year as the website has reportedly decided to shut itself down voluntarily.

In a one-word message to TorrentFreak, TorrentHound’s founder said ‘Finito’, which means ‘finished’ in Italian, indicating the website’s shutdown. The torrent website was founded back in 2007 and had been around for nearly a decade before its founder took the decision to shut it down.

As pointed out by TorrentFreak, even though the website had been around for quite some time now, and was among the top 10 torrent sites in terms of visits, it never reached the popularity levels of bigger players like The Pirate Bay, Kickass Torrents, and Torrentz.eu. TorrentHound founder provided a more detailed statement on the shutdown to the publication, saying, “It’s a combination of less traffic, less revenue and our bills piling up. Then add on constantly getting bugged by anti piracy agents, just wasn’t worth the headache anymore.”

The TorrentHound website now shows an obituary, with links to “not terrible places left for torrents”.

Earlier this year, torrents site Kickass Torrents was shut down after the arrest of alleged founder Artem Vaulin in Poland and was followed by the farewell of popular torrent search engine Torrentz.eu.

One of the most popular torrent website The Pirate Bay can be seen the only exception to the bunch as it has maintained its strength despite taking several hits in past. Several clone and mirror sites have tried to keep the name of other torrent sites alive but withered over time.

After Kickass Torrents, Torrentz.eu Shuts DownWeeks after torrents site Kickass Torrents was shut down following the arrest of alleged founder Artem Vaulin in Poland, another major player Torrentz.eu appears to have shut its portals on Friday, a media report said.

Torrentz.eu, considered the largest torrent meta-search engine, announced “farewell” to its millions of users.

Founded in 2003, Torrentz.eu had millions of visitors per day the site grew out to become one of the most visited torrent sites.

After more than 13 years of service, the popular site announced its farewell just a few hours ago, that too without any warning, Torrent Freak reported.

While the homepage is still active, Torrentz has completely disabled its search functionality and has similarly removed all torrent links. Torrent Freak claims it was contacted by the owner of Torrentz.eu, who “prefers not to comment at the moment.”

“Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines,” a text read while searching for content.

The site’s users are no longer able to login either. Instead, they see the following message: “Torrentz will always love you. Farewell.”

Two weeks ago, Artem Vaulin, the alleged 30-year-old Ukrainian owner of Kickass Torrents, was detained in Poland after being charged with a four-count US criminal indictment which was followed by shutdown of the search engine.

Vaulin was charged with money laundering and violations of several copyright laws.

Kickass Torrents' Popular Clone Site KAT.am Gets Taken Down

Last month, pirate website Kickass Torrents’ alleged ringleader Artem Vaulin was arrested in Poland and the domains of his website were seized. However, within hours of this news, there were several clone sites for Kickass Torrents that emerged, and proved what everybody already anticipated: pirate sites cannot be fully shut down.

However, one such clone site, KAT.am – probably the most popular out of all the clone sites, has now been taken down as a result of a notice issued by Motion Picture Association (MPA). Yes, you read it right; Hollywood is going after the clone pirate sites to curb the copyright infringement that causes millions of dollars’ worth of damage to the industry every single year.

The operator of KAT.am has said, “We are not worried, because if it’s not us, someone else will keep the game running. If not the alleged owner, it can be us. If we are not there, still there will surely be someone else. This never ends,” quotes TorrentFreak.

The warning to KAT.am’s owner from Motion Picture Association reads, “This Notice requires you to immediately (within 24 hours) take effective measures to end and prevent further copyright infringement. All opportunities provided by the Website to download, stream or otherwise obtain access to the Entertainment Content should be disabled permanently.”

TorrentFreak also points out that even though KAT.am is now offline due to deletion of the domain from the Armenian registry, two new domains, kickass.cd and kickass.mx, have already been launched, from where it can continue to operate.

To note, Motion Picture Association (MPA) represents six major film-studios including 20th Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and Warner Bros. Entertainment.
