The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) declared the results of its Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services Exam 2014, also known as PCS, on August 11. The candidates who had appeared for the examination can now check their result at the official website, www.uppsc.up.nic.in.

For the first time, UPPSC did not release the names of the toppers and successful candidates while announcing the results of its most sought-after recruitment exam. The result list only comprises of the registration numbers and roll numbers of the candidates who cleared the examination. The candidates will able to access their marksheets and category/post-wise cut offs on the webiste in due time.
A total of 21 posts were to be filled through this exam, and as many as 579 candidates have managed to be recruited to these positions. Few of the candidates will also be recruited for the posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
Out of these, 92 candidates have been selected as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), 41 as Assistant Commissioner (commercial tax), three as District Commandant (Home Guards) 42 as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), seven as District Backward Class Welfare Officer, six as basic Shiksha Adhikari, eight as Assistant Labour Commissioner, 150 as Commercial Tax Officer, nine as District Physically Handicapped Welfare Officer, 17 as District Food and Supply Officer, four as Assistant Commissioner (Co-operative) and 68 as Nayab Tehsildar, amongst other posts.

IIT Kharagpur is now asking its alumni to come back to the classroom once again – for learning new things as well as teaching younger students. Facing shortage of faculty, IIT is launching various distinguished alumni faculty schemes which would allow an alumnus to teach at the alma mater for sometime.
                        
                        
On August 10, President Pranab Mukherjee addressed the students of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) on ‘Energising the higher educational institutes of India’ through video conferencing from the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He showed the anxiety towards India’s global rank in higher education.
                        
Several candidates, who came to the Delhi l from across the country to appear for the Staff Selection Commission’s Common Graduate Level Test, could not sit for the exam on August 8 due to shortage of question papers at various centres.
                        
Yakub Memon who was hanged on July 30 this year, due to being involved in the 1993 Mumbai blasts was awarded the M.A Political Science degree in absentia by the Nagpur Regional Centre of the university at the 28th convocation of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).  He studied Literature from 2010 to 2012 and pursued Political Science from 2012 to 2014.
                        
                        
Delhi University released the eleventh cut-off list for admissions to undergraduate courses for the academic session of 2015 at 9 am today. The list for all three streams, Science, Commerce and Arts have been published online, the candidates can check the same at the official site
