For the first time, Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) is conducting online (computer based) examination for 3273 vacancies of Senior Section Engineers and Junior Engineers. The exams commenced from August 26 and will end on September 4.
The application process for registering for the examinations was also conducted online and around 18 lakh candidates have applied for the vacant posts.
As per newspaper reports, the examinations are being conducted in 242 cities across the country including far-off locations in North-East and Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a statement issued by the railways, the online format is expected to enhance objectivity, transparency and credibility of Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examinations significantly.

RRB is the employment gateway for group C and Group D posts in Indian railways. It functions under Ministry of Railways and is divided into 19 regional boards headed by a Central Control Board. On August 28, the West Bengal government announced that it has decided to postpone the primary Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) examination. The government has taken the decision to defer the exam as some of the question papers have gone missing. The exam, which was earlier scheduled to be conducted on August 30, will now be held on October 4.
