Facebook has been crowned the top smartphone app of 2015 according to the Tops of 2015: Digital report by Nielsen. The app had an average of 126 million unique users a month (from January to October), which is 8 percent growth from last October. said the report.
Facebook was followed by Google’s popular video portal, YouTube with an average of 97.627 million unique users each month in the same period, a 5 percent increase from October last year. Facebook Messenger app came in third, with an average of 96.444 million unique visitors a month in the same period – a rise of 31 percent from October last year.
In fourth place was the Google Search app (an average of 95.041 million unique visitors per month, rising 3 percent from last year), Google Play (an average of 89.708 million unique visitors per month, rising 7 percent from last year), Google Maps (an average of 87.782 million unique visitors per month, rising 8 percent from last year), Gmail (an average of 75.105 million unique visitors per month, rising 4 percent from last year), Instagram (an average of 55.413 million unique visitors per month, rising 23 percent from last year), Apple Music (an average of 54.550 million unique visitors per month, rising 26 percent from last year) and Apple Maps (an average of 46.406 million unique visitors per month, rising 16 percent from last year).
The Nielsen report also listed Q3 2015’s smartphone operating system US market share. It said smartphone penetration grew to 80 percent of US mobile subscribers at the end of September 2015. In Q3 2015, a majority of subscribers used Android (52.6 percent) and iOS (42.7 percent) devices to access their apps. Windows Phone had a 2.8 percent share, while BlackBerry had a 0.7 percent share.
Both Apple and Google have also shown their best apps and games in 2015. While Elight is the -best app as per Apple India, Colorfy – Coloring Book and Minecraft: Story Mode are the best Android apps and games as per Google.
