With Samsung expected to launch the Galaxy S7 at an unpacked event on Feb. 21, 2016, rumors piling up on the Web about the Samsung flagship are never-ending.

A new report claims the device will be more expensive than its predecessor, contradicting previous reports which said the device would be less expensive than the Galaxy S6 at launch.

There were recent reports that suggested Samsung was planning to make the price of the Galaxy S7 cheaper than the S6 when it launched. Part of the reason was believed to be Samsung’s retaining the Galaxy S6’s design and focusing on the internals and exclusive software features planned for the device. The company is expected to launch four new Galaxy S7 models at its February event.

However, the new report contradicts previous reports and claims Samsung will reportedly price the Galaxy S7 higher than the S6 at launch. The reason given is Samsung has chosen to use an iris scanner in the Galaxy S7, S7 edge, S7 Plus, and S7 edge+ that will allow users to unlock their smartphone and authorize payments more securely, since iris scanning is believed to be the most precise biometric scanning available. Microsoft uses the technology in Windows 10 and its new Lumia 950 and 950 XL smartphones.

Meanwhile, most smartphone makers are currently working on their next-generation flagship handsets, with most of the big players choosing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which is scheduled to begin on Feb. 22 and run through Feb. 25 next year, to launch their latest devices.

Among the most highly anticipated smartphones expected to be unveiled is the Samsung Galaxy S7, which will actually be launched a day before MWC 2016. Samsung used a similar strategy last year when it announced the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge right before MWC 2015 kicked off. The S6 edge was such a hit that it actually ended up winning top  honors and was named “Best New Handset” at the tradeshow.
