Honor Holly 3+ With 3GB RAM, 32GB Storage Launched at Rs. 12,999

After launching the Holly 3 in October, Huawei Terminal brand Honor has launched the Holly 3+ smartphone in India. The latest smartphone from the company seems to be identical to its predecessor in pretty much every way, except for memory and storage – which get a bump here. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 12,999 (MOP) and is available across India through offline channels.

The Honor Holly 3+ is pretty much identical to the Honor Holly 3 when it comes to specifications. It sports the same plastic back panel as the Honor Holly 3 and is likely to be patterned as well.

The dual-SIM Honor Holly 3+ features a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.2GHz Kirin 620 octa-core CPU. The major difference here is that the Holly 3+ comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage compared to the 2GB/ 16GB storage option for its predecessor. The storage can be expanded via a microSD card (up to 128GB). Notably, the latest model continues to run on EMUI 4.1 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of Nougat.

Camera specifications seem to be identical as well with a 13-megapixel rear sensor and an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies, both coming with f/2.0 apertures. Interestingly, despite the ‘Plus’ tag with the new model, Huawei hasn’t bumped up the battery as one would generally expect. The Holly 3+ packs a similar 3100mAh battery that came along with the Holly 3. Sensors include accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, compass, and G-sensor.

Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Driect, Wi-Fi hotspot, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth v4.0. The Holly 3+ measures the same as its predecessor at 154×77.1×8.45mm and weighs 168 grams. As mentioned, the smartphone will be available through offline retailers, while the Holly 3 is available on Amazon India.

Ahmedabad: Seventeen-year-old Varshil Shah, an Ahmedabad resident, scored 99.99% in the class 12th examination in Gujarat. Now he is set to become a Jain monk.

Varshil, whose father is a government servant, emerged as one of the toppers in general stream of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board examination, the results of which were declared two weeks ago. “Though I scored high marks, I don’t want to pursue the usual path where people run behind earthly possessions.

My goal is to attain inner peace and eternal happiness. That will be possible only when I leave behind everything and become a Jain monk,” Varshil said, speaking to reporters here. His family is supporting his decision, said Varshil, who will receive Rs.diksha’ (initiation) of monk-hood at a grand ceremony in Surat tomorrow.

“Since childhood I used to think a lot about real happiness. Then I met my guru Kalyan Ratna Vijayji Maharaj, who made me understand fine nuances of Jainism and other aspects of leading a happy and meaningful life,” he said. “There is no end to the human greed.

Those who are having thousands of rupees try to earn lakhs and then want crores. There is no end to it. But Jain monks who do not have anything except inner peace and knowledge are happier than these people,” he said.

TNBSE Tamil Nadu Board HSC (Class 12) exam results declared, check them here

Tamil Nadu’s directorate of government examinations declared the results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or Class 12 board exam on its official website. The results are also being sent on the mobile phones of the students.

Click here to check your results. Key in your registration number and date of birth and click on get marks. Your results will be displayed on the screen.

The Tamil Nadu Board Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or Class 12 board exam was declared today

At least 8,98,763 students appeared for the HSC exam and nearly 95% will get their result through an SMS. They can check their results here.

For Tamil medium students, certificates will also contain their names in Tamil for the first time. Till now, the certificates were printed only in English.

The Class 12 exams were conducted in March and reports said the evaluation of answer sheets began on April 6 and was completed on April 22.

Xiaomi releases MIUI 12 global update with more privacy controls, revamped user interface

Xiaomi Takes on IPhone in Japan With Big Battery and Megapixels

Xiaomi on Tuesday unveiled the global version of MIUI 12, the latest update to its Android -based operating system, for hundreds of millions of smartphones as the Chinese electronics giant pushes to broaden its services ecosystem.

The world’s fourth largest smartphone firm said it is delivering a range of new features to its overseas users with MIUI 12, including a revamped user interface, the ability to cast the phone screen without the need to connect it to a computer, improvement to multitasking support and battery life and more privacy controls to users.

Chief among the new changes is how the software looks. A company executive said animation renders slightly differently after installing MIUI 12, stretching more naturally across the screen — especially on smartphones with rounded corners — as a user taps on an app.

Xiaomi has been able to deliver this graphical improvement thanks to what it calls “kernel-level innovation” that includes a new rendering engine, she said.

“With our rendering, we have enabled color blending and Gaussian blur. You can see various degrees of blurring happening in real time as light penetrates different materials,” explained Louisa Jia, head of marketing and operations of Global MIUI, at an event today.

MIUI 12, which is built atop Android 9 and Android 10 (depending on the device on which it will be rolled out), also changes how storage, memory and power consumption usage are displayed on the phone, making it easier for users to quickly understand the state of their device at a glance.

As part of the new coat of paint, Xiaomi is also deploying dark mode across all third-party apps, including those that have not introduced support for this feature yet.

Support for multitasking is also getting an improvement, popping any additional app on a floating screen that users can move around to any part of the screen and engage quickly without having to switch from the game or other app that they were focusing on. The company said it is also introducing an “ultra battery saver” feature that kicks in when the level of phone charge hits 5%. The new feature shuts off every non-essential service to deliver an additional five hours of battery life.

Privacy

Another interesting feature the company is introducing grants more privacy control to users. MIUI 12 will allow users to easily monitor and restrict apps from using the camera, microphone, location, contacts, storage, call history and calendar.

Whenever an app uses any of these, a persistent icon appears in the notification bar, tapping which will allow users to see which app is using this data and easily shut that access. Additionally, like with newer versions of Android and iOS, MIUI 12 gives users the ability to determine how often an app can access sensitive personal information.

Xiaomi said with MIUI 12, it is also providing users with the ability to strip off sensitive information, such as location data from a photo before they share it with their friends. By default, the new operating system will strip off such data from photos — a feature that privacy advocates have long desired, and business communication app Slack recently introduced to its service.

MIUI 12 will roll out to select smartphones — Mi 9, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro, Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro — at the end of June, and dozens of smartphone models, including Poco F1 and Redmi 6, that were launched in 2018, “soon afterward,” said Jia. The company said it will make a beta version of MIUI 12 available to users next week for those who don’t want to wait too long.

More than 300 million smartphones ran MIUI software at the end of last year, Xiaomi revealed in its most recent earnings call in late March. The company previously stated that it is banking on MIUI to expand its services ecosystem as it looks to cut its financial reliance on sales of gadgets.

In 2018, Xiaomi started to display ads in the lockscreen and settings app to users in India and select other markets.

HTC Desire 12 Plus has been leaked. The development follows the leak of the original, smaller variant – HTC Desire 12 – from last month. Said to sport an 18:9 display, the Desire 12’s retail box was also leaked, tipping detailed specifications. Now, detailed specifications of HTC Desire 12 Plus have hit the Web, and point to the use of a 5.99-inch display on what is thought to be an upcoming large-screen affordable smartphone from the Taiwanese electronics giant that’s having a tough time staying afloat in the intensely mobile competitive market.

According to a report by Android Headlines, the HTC Desire 12 Plus is codenamed Breeze Plus – which fits with the Breeze codename that had been leaked for the smaller HTC Desire 12. As per the report, the HTC Desire 12 Plus bears a 5.99-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) TFT display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 268ppi. It is said to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC, clocked at up to 1.8GHz. The Desire 12 Plus is also tipped to bear a 13-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front camera.

As for storage, the HTC Desire 12 Plus is reported to feature 32GB of inbuilt storage that’s expandable via microSD card. Connectivity options include support for a range of LTE bands, including Band 3 and Band 40. It is said to be powered by a 2965mAh battery, with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support that can fully recharge the battery in 2 hours and 10 minutes with a 5V/1.5A charger. It measures 158.24×76.54×8.39mm and weighs 155.01 grams. It can be expected to run Android Oreo, as the Desire 12 was also tipped to run the same version of Android.

To recall, the HTC Desire 12 was first leaked by prolific tipster, Evan Blass (aka @evleaks). A later leak detailed the specifications, claiming the dual-SIM (Nano) Desire 12 features a 5.5-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display and is powered by a quad-core MediaTek SoC, coupled with 3GB of RAM. The handset is also reported to come with a 12-megapixel PDAF camera sensor on the back, supporting 1080p video recording, and a 5-megapixel BSI camera sensor on the front. Further, it is spotted with a microSD card support (up to 2TB), 2730mAh battery, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, 4G LTE, and Bluetooth.

Blass had claimed the HTC Desire 12 would run Oreo, and sport 2GB RAM, a 13-megapixel rear camera sensor, 8-megapixel front camera sensor, and 16GB onboard storage.

iOS 12 Update Said to Bring Animoji on FaceTime, Revamped Do Not Disturb, and More

Apple’s annual software upgrade this fall will offer users plenty of new features: enabling a single set of apps to work across iPhones, iPads and Macs, a Digital Health tool to show parents how much time their children have been staring at their screen and improvements to Animojis, those cartoon characters controlled by the iPhone X’s facial recognition sensor.

But just as important this year will be what Apple doesn’t introduce: redesigned home screens for the iPhone, iPad and CarPlay, and a revamped Photos app that can suggest which images to view.

These features were delayed after Apple concluded it needed its own major upgrade in the way the company develops and introduces new products. Instead of keeping engineers on a relentless annual schedule and cramming features into a single update, Apple will start focusing on the next two years of updates for its iPhone and iPad operating system, according to people familiar with the change. The company will continue to update its software annually, but internally engineers will have more discretion to push back features that aren’t as polished to the following year.

Software chief Craig Federighi laid out the new strategy to his army of engineers last month, according to a person familiar with the discussion. His team will have more time to work on new features and focus on under-the-hood refinements without being tied to a list of new features annually simply so the company can tout a massive year-over-year leap, people familiar with the situation say. The renewed focus on quality is designed to make sure the company can fulfil promises made each summer at the annual developers conference and that new features work reliably and as advertised.

“This change is Apple beginning to realize that schedules are not being hit, stuff is being released with bugs – which previously would not have happened,” when Apple was a smaller company with fewer engineers, customers and devices to manage, says one person familiar with the company. Apple declined to comment.

The shift is an admission of what many customers have already come to notice: Some Apple software has become prone to bugs and underdeveloped features. In recent months, users have complained about text messages appearing out of order, the iPhone X registering incoming phone calls late and frequent app crashes.

Apple has also recently released features later than it expected, as the rush to meet the annual deadline overtaxed engineers and created last-minute delays. For example, last year’s iOS release didn’t initially include previously touted features that would let consumers send money via iMessage or synchronise full text message histories among Apple devices.

The decision to formalize the process and give engineers more time to perfect software is a major cultural shift. For years, the company hasfunnelledd its energies into quick-turnaround, splashy upgrades that are designed to wow the faithful and make rivals seem slow-footed.

The strategy has paid off handsomely because the feature-packed upgrades keep customers tied to Apple’s ecosystem and prompt them to use more of the company’s lucrative services. More than 90 percent of Apple customers use either of the last two major iOS updates, compared with 30 percent of Android users who have downloaded the two latest versions of Google’s mobile OS, according to data from both companies.

But the feature-packed upgrades place huge demands on Apple’s beleaguered engineers. At Google, teams update apps on their own schedule and aren’t tied to the annual Android release. At Apple, all new features are tied to a big release in the fall, when Apple rolls out its splashiest new software, and a more modest update in the spring. Individual apps aren’t updated on their own, and everything is driven by the release schedule.

Under the previous system, a person familiar with Apple says, “inevitably, some things will be late because you underestimated how long it would take. Some things have to be cut, some things have to be rushed. It’s the result of having thousands of people working on the same schedule.”

The first test of the new development strategy will come in the fall, when Apple debuts the next iPhone and iPad software upgrade. Internally code-named “Peace,” it will likely be called iOS 12.

The change that will cause the biggest stir: making it possible for a single third-party app to work on iPhones, iPads and Mac computers. The upgrade will be folded into the upcoming macOS 10.14 (known internally as “Liberty”) and could involve bringing to the Mac some of Apple’s own iPhone apps, including Home, which controls smart appliances.

Apple’s popular Animojis will get new characters and a more easily navigated menu. The animated emojis will also come to the iPad; the company is working on a new model that will have the required Face ID camera. Apple plans to integrate Animojis into FaceTime, letting people put virtual faces over themselves in video calls. (Technology to bring multi-person conferencing to FaceTime video calls is being explored but might not be ready for this year.)

Also in the works for this year: a redesigned version of Apple’s stock-tracking app and updated version of Do Not Disturb that will give users more options to automatically reject phone calls or silence notifications. Apple is also working to more deeply integrate Siri into the iPhone’s search view, redesign the interface used to import photos into an iPad on the go and make it possible for several people at once to play augmented reality games.

Consumers will have to wait until 2019 for significant iPad-focused software upgrades. Among them: A feature that will make it possible to run several windows in one app and click between them just like tabs in a web browser (the Mac got this feature a couple of years ago) and a related enhancement that lets two screens from the same app run side-by-side. Other updates that have been pushed back include new features for the Apple Pencil stylus and a toggle in the email app that will mute notifications from specific threads.

In the past, “Apple’s smaller scale helped it build better-quality software than the rest of the market,” says Steven Troughton-Smith, a veteran app developer. “But with its newfound size it has seemingly been unable to find the right balance.”

Finding a new balance between speed and quality will be tricky. On the one hand, spreading feature updates over a longer period could hurt Apple’s competitiveness in the fiercely contested smartphone market. On the other hand, sticking to what Troughton-Smith calls a “ruthlessly ambitious” upgrade cycle risks rushing out features before they’re ready and undermining Apple’s vaunted reputation for quality.

Domestic mobile handset company Lava on Wednesday announced the launch of the 12.5-inch Helium 12 notebook, what it claims is the “widest screen and lightest notebook”. Lava has priced it at Rs. 12,999. The Helium 12 will be available in Silver and Gold colour variants at major e-commerce portals as well as multi-brand outlets across 14 cities.

Weighing 1.31kg, the Helium 12 marks the next entry into Lava’s notebook portfolio post the launch of Helium 14 a few months ago. It sports a 12.5-inch display with a 1366×768 pixels display. It’s Helium 12 is powered by Windows 10 Home and runs on an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 processor, with a clock speed up to 1.88GHz. The laptop has 2GB of DDR3 RAM.

The notebook features 10000mAh battery for prolonged usage. The Helium 12 has 32GB of inbuilt storage, expandable via SD card (up to 128GB). An HDD up to 1TB can also be added. The Helium 12 has VGA webcam with video-calling functionality. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, 1xUSB 2.0, 1xUSB 3.0, and 3.5mm audio jack.

The result of class 12 supplementary exams conducted by Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) have been declared at mpbse.nic.in. The class 10 results were also expected to be declared today but have not yet been announced. According to a MPBSE official who did not wish to be identified, class 10 results would be declared this week before 12 August.

Those who could not clear the exam in the first attempt were allowed to appear in the supplementary exam in July after the results were published in May.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to check the result:

• Open mpbse.nic.in

• Click on the ‘Results’ tab on the right side of the homepage

• Click on ‘HSC class 12 result 2017’

• Enter your roll number and click submit to get your results
