Honor 9 Premium with 6GB RAM, 128GB ROM coming in more markets soon

The basic one with 4GB RAM+ 64GB ROM, the second one with 6GB RAM+ 64GB ROM and the highest one with 6GB RAM and the highest version with 6GB RAM+ 128GB ROM. The storage space can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. The high-end or premium version of the Honor 9 will now be up for sale in some of the European countries as well, claims a report by WinFuture. This is quite surprising since versions with more RAM usually stay limited to the Chinese market. Notably, the Honor 9 featuring 6GB of RAM and 128GB of default storage will be called Honor 9 Premium.

As for the pricing, it will cost around €450, which is roughly equivalent to Rs. 33,000. Well, considering the specs and features, the smartphone is quite reasonably priced. However, the 6GB RAM variant of the Honor 9 is priced at around Rs. 28,500 in China. Talking about the specifications, the Honor 9 Premium is powered by an Octa-core Kirin 960 processor. On the optics front, the smartphone features a rear dual camera setup, which consists of a 20MP sensor (for monochrome) and a 12MP sensor (for RGB) with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and dual-tone LED flash.

Likewise, there is also an 8MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. Moreover, the rear camera supports 4K video recording and the front camera supports full-HD video recording. The phone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat layered with Huawei’s EMUI 5.1 skin on top. Connectivity suite of the phone offers Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS, 3G, 4G with VoLTE, GPRS/ EDGE, and a USB Type-C port. Fueling the device is a non-removable 3200mAh battery.

Microsoft Outlook.com's Premium Service Ditches Preview, Now Available to Users in US

Microsoft started testing its Outlook Premium service, the ad-free premium version of Outlook.com, with a limited number of users earlier last year and then made the service available as a preview for public later. Even though Microsoft has not made any announcement, the service has now ditched its ‘preview’ tag and become available to all users in the US.

Notably, the company is still offering the same offer price as it did with the preview, i.e. $19.95 (roughly Rs. 1,350) for a year, and a price of $50 (roughly Rs. 3,350) per year after that, as pointed out in a report by Thurrott. For the custom domain, users need to pay $10 (roughly Rs. 670) but custom domain subscriptions are not available on a stand-alone basis; a concurrent Outlook.com Premium subscription is required, the company says on its website.

The offer price will be available till March this year after which users will need to pay regular price of $50 per year. The service has still been kept exclusive to the US customers and company hasn’t provided any details if it plans to roll it out to other countries.

Outlook Premium, apart from ad-free inbox, also provides better calendar sharing, among other premium features. Most notably, it brings support for up to five new custom domain accounts, a feature which was removed by the company in 2014 from Outlook.com. The subscription for the premium version will auto-renew annually at “then current prices” and there will be an additional charge for the custom domain, the company has mentioned on its website’s FAQ (frequently asked questions) page.

The company has already clarified that the premium version will only support up to five custom domains, and users who are interested in more can instead opt for Office 365 Business Essentials. Further, the custom domains will be cancelled as soon as the users cancel their subscription to Outlook Premium.

BlackBerry KEY2 LE is now available through the company’s online store for the EU

BlackBerry’s latest smartphone, the KEY2 LE, was announced at IFA at the end of August as a toned down version of the KEY2, with lesser specs but also a more affordable price.

This smartphone is now up for grabs from the company’s own online store serving the EU. At the moment only the Slate color version is in stock, and you can buy a KEY2 LE in that hue with 32GB of storage for €399.

The Champagne colorway is up for pre-order, and will start shipping on November 12. This comes with 64GB of storage and a €429 price tag attached.

Regardless of which color you pick, you have a choice between QWERTY, AZERTY, and QWERTZ keyboards as well as a UK or EU power supply. So the store has you covered no matter what part of the EU you’re from.

You can also buy the KEY2 LE flip case for €49.99, and the KEY2 LE soft shell for €24.99. Both of these are available already.

Amazon Fire TV Stick, Kindle, and Echo devices can now be availed in select cities in India within two hours, through the Prime Now app. The app-only ultrafast delivery service is initially available in Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Hyderabad, and only for Prime members. To attract customers, Amazon has also announced a limited period introductory offer under which the Amazon devices are available with 15 percent discount. The latest development comes weeks after the e-commerce giant rebranded the original Amazon Now app as Prime Now in the country and introduced its two-hour fast delivery service exclusively for Prime members in select cities. Essentially, with the move, Amazon has brought the Fire TV Stick, Kindle, and Echo devices to the Prime Now store.

By leveraging the two-hour ultra-fast delivery service, Prime members can order the Fire TV Stick, All New Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite (Wi-Fi), Echo Dot, and Echo anytime between 6am to midnight. You can also avail the 15 percent discount. This brings down the price of the Fire TV Stick to Rs. 3,399 (MRP Rs. 3,999), All New Kindle to Rs. 5,099 (MRP Rs. 5,999), Kindle Paperwhite (Wi-Fi) to Rs. 9,349 (MRP Rs. 10,999), and Echo Dot to Rs. 3,699 (MRP Rs. 4,499), and Echo to Rs. 8,499 (MRP Rs. 9,999).

Under Prime Now, Amazon has a selection of over 10,000 products from categories such as Consumer Electronics, Home and Kitchen, and Grocery fulfilled by Amazon. All these products come from the Now Store that is backed by a network of 15 dedicated fulfilment centres in the top cities.

Nokia 2 Android 8.1 Oreo Beta Update Now Available, Announces HMD Global

HMD Global, the licensee the Nokia mobile brand, back in May 2018 at its product launch event promised an Android 8.1 Oreo update for its affordable Nokia 2 handset. Now, the Finnish phone maker has fulfilled its promise and the latest version of Android Oreo is now available for the Nokia 2 as part of the Nokia Beta Labs. With this update, the Nokia 2 becomes the last one in the current lineup to run Android 8.1 Oreo software, albeit, still in beta.

Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce that the Nokia 2 would be getting the Oreo update as part of the beta programme that the company runs. This development comes after HMD’s promise to bring this update to the phone. At the same event, the manufacturer had also stated that all Nokia phones launched till date would eventually receive the Android P update, with the Nokia 1 and Nokia 2.1 getting the relevant upgrade to the current Android Oreo (Go edition). Notably, Android P Beta is currently available for the Nokia 7 Plus.

Nokia 2 specifications

Launched in October of last year, the Nokia 2 is a fairly budget-oriented handset with entry-level specifications. It sports a 5-inch LTPS HD (720×1280 pixels) display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The handset is powered by the modest quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 SoC, along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. There is an 8-megapixel camera sensor at the back, and a 5-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies and video calls. A 4000mAh battery powers the internals from underneath the hood, said to provide a 2-day battery life.

The Nokia 2 measures 143.5×71.3×9.3mm, and is IP52-rated (for drip protection). It comes in three colour options – Pewter Black with black face and frame, Pewter White with white face, black frame, and Copper, with black face, black back, and copper frame.

Quora Now Available in Hindi, Support for Other Indian Languages Coming Soon

Aiming to expand its user base in India, popular question-and-answer platform Quora on Thursday launched in Hindi and promised the roll out of the platform in several other Indian vernacular languages soon.

“The launch of Quora Hindi is an expansion of our mission to share knowledge. We will soon launch the platform in other Indian languages within a few months,” Gautam Shewakramani, India Country Manager at Quora, told IANS.

“We are preparing the launch of the platform in several languages and the next launch may be in more than one language,” Shewakramani said.

Quora was founded in 2009 by Adam D’Angelo, a former Chief Technology Officer at Facebook.

The Mountain View, California-headquartered company currently has 200 million monthly unique visitors. Its English language version started generating revenues through advertisements from May 2017.

Besides English, the platform is available in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and starting May 2018 Indonesian too.

“There is currently no plan to monetise Quora Hindi. The focus now is on maintaining quality and credibility of information shared on the platform,” Shewakramani said.

“The idea of knowledge-sharing has a universal appeal. India fits well into our mission as this country has always valued knowledge and shared them with the greater world community,” he added.

Quora launched a beta version in Hindi to a small group of people in April 2018 before making it available to all.

“Quora has been popular in India for many years, and now that we are opening Quora up in Hindi we hope to have even more participation from people in India. I’ve been excited to see the engagement throughout the beta of Quora in Hindi,” Shewakramani said.

“During the past few months, we’ve already seen thoughtful answers on diverse subjects, such as the relevance of Ram and Sita to couples today, the best places to visit in Delhi, advice for people traveling outside India who do not speak English, gender equality at home, among many others,” he added.

Since its launch in English in 2010, Quora has attracted leading personalities and experts who have answered all kinds of questions asked by people on Quora, and shared knowledge that was not available before.

People like former US President Barack Obama, Flipkart Co-Founder Sachin Bansal, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, and social sector expert Smarinita Shetty are just a few examples.

Honor 9 Lite 4GB RAM Model Available in Open Sale Till Sunday

Honor, a sub-brand of Huawei’s, has announced the availability of the Honor 9 Lite smartphone in an open sale – specifically, the 4GB RAM/ 64GB inbuilt storage model – until Sunday, April 8. The 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage model will now be made available in a bi-weekly flash sale exclusively on Flipkart. Honor 9 Lite is one of the smartphones that the company had launched in India this year, in its efforts to make its mark in the affordable smartphone segment. Positioned in the sub-Rs. 15,000 segment, the smartphone is the successor to the Honor 8 Lite. The key feature of the handset is the presence of four cameras – two at the back, and two at the front.

As part of the company’s Honor World Carnival, which started on April 4, Honor 9 Lite (4GB RAM) buyers will be able to avail an additional exchange offer of Rs. 2,000. The Honor 9 Lite is available in India at a price point of Rs. 10,999 for the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant and Rs. 14,999 for the 4GB RAM/ 64GB variant. To note, Honor recently announced the rollout of ‘Ride Mode’ feature via HOTA update (Huawei over the Air) for Honor 9 Lite in India.

To recap the specifications, the Honor 9 Lite is a dual-SIM smartphone and runs Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.0. It sports a 5.65-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 659 SoC, coupled with 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. Also, it is equipped with dual camera setups on the front as well as the back – both with 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors. It recently started receiving the Face Unlock feature via a HOTA update in India.

Both the Honor 9 Lite variants come with inbuilt storage expansion via microSD card (up to 256GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration. Connectivity options in the handset include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB with OTG support, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The smartphone packs a 3000mAh battery. It measures 151x 71.9×7.6mm and weighs 149 grams.

Motorola is offering discounted offers on four smartphones from its lineup in India under Moto Fest sale. These include the Moto E4 Plus, the Moto X4, the Moto G5S Plus, and the Moto Z2 Play. A maximum discount of Rs. 6,000 is applicable and the duration of the sale is from Tuesday, March 27 to Thursday, March. The smartphones will be available across all retail channels including Amazon, Flipkart, retail stores, and Moto Hubs across the country.

The Moto E4 Plus is available for a discounted price of Rs. 9,499, down from its launch price of Rs. 9,999. It will be available offline via Moto Hubs and online via Flipkart. The Moto X4 (3GB RAM/ 32GB storage) variant is available with an exchange offer of Rs. 3,000 which brings down the launch price of Rs. 20,999. This offer on the smartphone is available on Flipkart as well.

Meanwhile, the Moto Z2 Play has been given a deep price cut of Rs. 6,000 and is available at a price of Rs. 21,999 during Moto Fest sale. This smartphone can be purchased along with the offer via Flipkart. Also, there is an offer on the Moto G5S Plus which has seen a limited period price cut of Rs. 4,000. The smartphone is available at Rs. 12,999, down from Rs. 16,999 and can be bought at Moto Hubs and via Amazon.

As part of the offer, buyers can also avail benefits such as No Cost EMI options with zero processing fee via Bajaj Finserv and Home Credit. Select Motorola smartphones were available at a discounted price during Moto Days sales last month as well.

To recall the specifications, the Moto E4 Plus sports a 5.5-inch HD display, a MediaTek MTK6737M SoC, and 3GB of RAM. The Moto X4 sports a 5.2-inch full-HD display, a Snapdragon 630 SoC, and 4GB of RAM. The Moto G5S Plus features a 5.5-inch full-HD display, Snapdragon 625 SoC, and it comes with 4GB of RAM. Finally, the Moto Z2 Play sports a 5.5-inch full-HD display, a Snapdragon 626 SoC, and 4GB RAM.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ went on sale for the first time in India on Friday. While the handsets are available across various channels, Airtel has also introduced the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones on its online store with down payment options along with bundled monthly plans. After Samsung unveiled its latest flagship smartphones at MWC 2018 last month, Airtel had opened pre-registrations for the handsets on its online store. Now, Airtel is offering customers the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ with down payment options starting at Rs. 9,999 under the new plan. On top of the down payment, Airtel requires customers to subscribe to its postpaid plans for 24 months to get their hands on the handsets.

Under the Airtel offer, the Samsung Galaxy S9 (64GB variant) is available on the online store at a down payment of Rs. 9,900 and 24 monthly instalments of Rs. 2,499. The Galaxy S9+ (64GB variant) is also available with a down payment of Rs. 9,900 but the buyer has to go for 24 monthly instalments of Rs. 2,799. To note, the monthly instalments comes with a postpaid plan that offers 80GB data (with rollover), unlimited calling, subscription to one-year of Amazon Prime membership, Airtel Secure, Airtel TV, and Wynk Music.

Similarly, the Galaxy S9 (256GB variant) is available on the Airtel online store at a down payment of Rs. 17,900 and 24 monthly instalments of Rs. 2,499. Further, The Galaxy S9+ (256GB variant) is available with a down payment of Rs. 17,900 and 24 monthly instalments of Rs. 2,799.

The Airtel Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ offer is open to both postpaid and prepaid subscribers, however, prepaid subscribers will need to “get a new Postpaid connection or shift their current Airtel Prepaid connection to Postpaid,” the terms and conditions specify.

Airtel is also offering a free handset protection plan with the purchase of Samsung Galaxy S9 series. It is worth noting that Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are also available to buy via Flipkart, Samsung Shop, and retail outlets in India.

Moto G5S Plus, Moto G5S, Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5 Now Available With Discounts in Amazon

Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus, and their special editions, as well as the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus, have received temporary price cuts on Amazon India. Lenovo brand Moto, in a limited period offer, slashed the price of some smartphones in India. The offer is available on the Moto Store on Amazon India website from Tuesday, February 13 to Thursday, February 15.

The Moto G5 is available at a price of Rs. 8,499, down from its MRP of Rs. 11,999. The Moto G5 Plus gets a price cut of Rs. 6,000 and is now available for Rs. 10,999, down from Rs. 16,999. The Moto G5S is now available at Rs. 11,999, down from Rs. 13,999, with an extra Rs. 2,000 off on exchange, while the Moto G5S Plus is available at Rs. 13,999, down from Rs. 16,999, with an extra Rs. 2,000 off on exchange.

To recall, the Moto G5S is an upgraded variant of the original Moto G5. The dual-SIM Moto G5S runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and sports a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS LCD display. The phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC. It comes with a 16-megapixel rear sensor and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The Moto G5S has a 3000mAh battery with fast charging.

Meanwhile, the Moto G5S Plus is a better-endowed version of the Moto G5 Plus. The dual-SIM Moto G5S also runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box and sports a bigger 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS LCD display. The phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. It comes with two 13-megapixel rear cameras and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. The Moto G5S Plus also has a 3000mAh battery with fast charging.

The company had recently launched the Moto X4 6GB RAM variant in India. Also, Moto Z2 Force is another smartphone that is set to launch in India on February 15.
