Before he entered the Oval Office in January,Donald Trump pledged to donate his yearly salary of $400,000 that he earns serving as President of the United States.

Fulfilling that promise for the second time this year, Trump donated his second-quarter salary of $100,000 to the Department of Education on Wednesday to help fund a STEM camp, which teaches young students about science, technology, engineering and math.

But the gift is just a small fraction of what the department would lose under Trump’s proposed budget. Though Trump’s 2018 budget will not be enacted without congressional approval, his proposal would cut the education department’s spending by $9.2 billion — or about 13.5% — which would include significant slashes to student loan programs.

A similar situation occurred in April when Trump donated his first-quarter salary to the Department of Interior, which stands to lose 12%, of about $1.6 billion, of its funding under Trump’s proposed budget. His $78,333.32 gift back then is helping fund the National Park Service’s battlefield preservation efforts, which is currently $229 million behind in deferred maintenance costs.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos released a statement Wednesday thanking Trump for his donation, lauding “his commitment to our nation’s students and to reforming education in America so that every child, no matter their ZIP code, has access to a high quality education.”

“We want to encourage as many children as possible to explore STEM fields in the hope that many develop a passion for these fields,” she added.

It is unclear what the STEM camp will look like, but DeVos mentioned a reading event she hosted with Trump’s daughter Ivanka, special assistant to the president, at a Smithsonian museum in Washington D.C. aimed at encouraging young girls to learn more about STEM subjects.

Representatives from the White House and the Department of Education did not immediately respond to request for comment.

The proposed state House budget restores some of the education funding the Senate slated for elimination as part of a 3 a.m. maneuver earlier this month that hit low-income counties.

A piece of the House budget unveiled in the House education subcommittee Thursday restores money for the Eastern North Carolina STEM program, giving it $300,000 next year. The Senate budget would eliminate the money.

The House proposal also makes two early-college high schools in Northampton and Washington counties eligible for extra money. The Senate made those schools ineligible.

The Senate cuts hit education programs in Democratic Sen. Erica Smith-Ingram’s district, and would affect mostly low-income, African-American students.

Senate Republicans made the cuts in an amendment brought at 3 a.m. shortly before it approved its budget proposal. Republican said they wanted to use the money to pay for an opioid treatment program.

The Senate also called for taking money out of Democrats’ districts that teacher assistants use to help get teaching licenses and shifted the funding to Republicans’ districts. The House budget proposal eliminates funding for that program.

The House budget still has far to go. Once the House passes its budget, House and Senate negotiators will meet to work out the differences.

Verizon Said to Be Near Revised Deal to Buy Yahoo After Price Cut

Verizon Communications Inc is close to a revised deal to buy Yahoo Inc’s core Internet business for $250 million to $350 million (roughly Rs. 1,673 crores to Rs. 2,343 crores) less than the original agreed price of $4.83 billion (roughly Rs. 32,338 crores), according to a source briefed on the matter.

Since last year, Verizon had been trying to persuade Yahoo to amend the terms of the acquisition agreement to reflect the economic damage from two cyber-attacks. A source told Reuters that the deal, which could come as soon as this week, will entail Verizon and Yahoo sharing the liability from potential lawsuits related to the data breaches.

Another person familiar with the situation said the price cut was likely to be around $250 million, a figure that Bloomberg reported earlier on Wednesday.

A representative from Verizon declined to comment. Yahoo did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

“Maybe this isn’t quite as much of a discount as initially thought, but it’s at least something,” said Dave Heger, senior equity analyst at Edward Jones.

Verizon hopes to combine Yahoo’s search, email and messenger assets, as well as advertising technology tools, with its AOL unit, which Verizon bought in 2015 for $4.4 billion. Verizon has been looking to mobile video and advertising for new sources of revenue outside an oversaturated wireless market.

But Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo has been under scrutiny by federal investigators and lawmakers since disclosing the largest known data breach in history in December, months after disclosing a separate hack.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has launched a probe into whether Yahoo should have disclosed the breaches, which occurred in 2013 and 2014, sooner, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal last month.

On Wednesday, Yahoo sent a warning to users whose accounts may have been accessed by intruders between 2015 and 2016, as part of a data security issue related to the breach it disclosed in December. A person familiar with the matter said notifications have gone out to a mostly final list of users.

Yahoo shares rose 1.5 percent to $45.69 in afternoon trading. Verizon shares fell 0.7 percent to $47.93.

Medium to Cut 50 Jobs as It Changes Its Business Model

US-based online publishing platform Medium said it would slash its workforce by a third, or eliminate 50 jobs, close two offices as the company changes its ad-driven business model.

The job cuts were mostly in sales and support, while the vast majority of the product development and engineering teams would remain, the company said on Wednesday.

The company’s ad-driven publishing model was “becoming an extension of a broken system”, Chief Executive Evan Williams wrote in a post.

Williams did not describe the “new model” the company would create, but said it would reward writers and creators, based on the value they were creating, not just their ability to attract “a few seconds of attention”.

Medium allows users, including companies and media outlets, to post blogs that readers can annotate.

The company said it was shutting down offices in New York and Washington, DC, though some employees would continue to work remotely from these locations.

And the internet has gone into meltdown with fans as excited as they are traumatised.

The singer has donated his lopped off ponytail to charity.

The Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to young cancer sufferers in the UK, described it as “what a day!”

The wigs are made from real hair which means someone somewhere could have a superstar mop very soon.

The internet is still holding its breath while it waits to see what a new short-haired-harry looks like.

Of course some people have taken the news pretty hard and #RIPHarrysHair has been trending for hours.

Of course it’s also made lots of people love Harry that little bit more… if that was possible.

Moto G5S Price Cut in India Ahead of Moto G6 Launch

In the wake of the company’s upcoming Moto G6 series launch, Lenovo-owned Motorola on Monday announced a permanent price cut on the Moto G5S. The mid-range smartphone has received a price cut of Rs. 4,000 and is now available for its new official price of Rs. 9,999. The smartphone can be purchased for its new price across Moto Hubs, Amazon.in, and offline retail partners in Fine Gold, Lunar Grey, and Oxford Blue colour variants.

Launched in India in August last year, the Moto G5S was initially priced at Rs. 13,999, while the Oxford Blue variant was launched later in October 2017 for a price of Rs. 14,999. We are also expecting to see the launch of Moto G6 Play, Moto G6, and Moto G6 Plus at an event in Brazil later this week, and the India launch is expected to be in the same time frame.

Moto G5S specifications

The dual-SIM (Nano) Moto G5S Plus runs Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box, and sports a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS LCD display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The handset runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage.

In terms of optics, the Moto G5S bears a single rear camera that has a 16-megapixel sensor, with PDAF, f/2.0 aperture, and LED flash. The selfie camera has a 5-megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens, LED flash, and f/2.0 aperture. There is a 3000mAh battery under the hood, with TurboPower charging support.

Connectivity options on the Moto G5S include 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB. Additionally, sensors on the phone are accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, which the Chinese company sells like hotcakes, has received a permanent price drop of Rs. 1,000 in India. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (review) price in India now starts at Rs. 9,999.

The announcement was made by Xiaomi India Head Manu Kumar Jain on Sunday through his Twitter account. “We are announcing a permanent price drop of Rs. 1,000 on India’s #1 selling smartphone: #RedmiNote4 [sic],” Jain tweeted.

As a result of the price cut, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with 3GB RAM, 32GB storage is priced at Rs. 9,999, while the variant with 4GG RAM, 64GB onboard storage is now available at Rs. 11,999. The price drop is applicable on both Mi.com and Flipkart. Furthermore, the latest price drop makes the Redmi Note 4 a more competitive option against models like Moto G5, Nokia 5, and Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016).

Flipkart offers

In addition to the declined price, Flipkart has listed some offers on the Redmi Note 4 to give it an edge over the competition. Customers can exchange their existing models to get an exchange worth Rs. 11,000. Also, five percent discount is available on orders purchased through Axis Bank Buzz credit cards. The online marketplace is additionally providing no-cost EMI options to sell the handset at a monthly instalment of Rs. 2,000.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 specifications

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 4 in India back in January. The Shenzhen-based company launched the Redmi Note 4 in 2GB, 3GB and 4GB variants at launch. However, the cheapest variant has not been available in the country for a long time.

The Redmi Note 4 features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with 2.5D Curved Glass. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with up to 4GB of RAM. The smartphone has a microSD card (up to 128GB) slot to expand the built-in storage.

The Android Nougat running Redmi Note 4 has a 13-megapixel camera sensor at the back and a 5-megapixel camera sensor at the front. It has 4G with VoLTE, GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. Besides, The handset packs a 4100mAh battery and comes in Black, Dark Grey, and Gold colour options.

It didn’t lead to a score, but it’s an incredible feat of athleticism by Georgia Tech quarterback TaQuon Marshall. The Yellow Jackets have been handing it to No. 25 Tennessee, dominating possession with their flexbone offense and running up a 21-7 lead in the third quarter. That Marshall run went for 28 yards, and he carried for a one-yard touchdown a couple of plays later. He’s been electrifying.

When Marshall scored, Tech had controlled possession for 26:58 to Tennessee’s 8:43. It’s been an utterly dominant flexbone performance, with Marshall (at the time of that touchdown) only throwing four times. He completed two for 59 yards, and Tech’s been marching along methodically for five yards per carry — over and over and over.

Tennessee had an entire offseason to prepare to stop Paul Johnson’s triple option. It doesn’t appear that the Vols did a great job of it. Marshall’s already well over 100 yards rushing.
