Moto X4 Specifications Leak on Benchmark Site; 5-Inch Display, 3GB RAM Tipped

The specifications for Lenovo’s upcoming Moto X4 were leaked in detail earlier this month but now a new set of specifications for the smartphone have surfaced on the Internet. The new specifications for the Moto X4 have been spotted on a benchmark website and suggest that the smartphone will come with 3GB of RAM instead of 4GB, which was tipped earlier – though of course, it may launch in two variants.

The GFXBench listing of the Moto device with model number XT1789, which is expected to be Moto X4, suggests that the handset will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and sport a 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display. Notably, the previous leak tipped the smartphone to feature a 5.2-inch full-HD display. Just like the previous leak, the listing suggests that Moto X4 will be powered by a Snapdragon 630 SoC.

However, the listing has tipped the smartphone to come with 3GB of RAM instead of 4GB RAM that was suggested earlier. The discrepancy continues even in terms of storage as the listing says the smartphone comes with 16GB built-in storage, against the 32GB tipped earlier. As we mentioned, it’s possible Moto launches two variants – 3GB RAM/ 16GB storage and 4GB RAM/ 32GB storage.

In terms of optics, the GFXBench listing suggests that the smartphone sports a 16-megapixel camera at front and a 12-megapixel sensor at the back. The Moto X4 is expected to come with a dual camera setup with a 12-megapixel and another 8-megapixel sensor at the back.

Interestingly, the Moto X4 is expected to be the first non-Google smartphone to support the search giant’s Project Fi MVNO service that allow users to switch seamlessly between the different carriers. While there are rumours about the smartphone’s launch at July 25 event from the company, it hasn’t been confirmed as yet.

MBoSE SSLC class 10 results 2017 leak on Facebook, blamed on technical glitch

New Delhi: The Meghalaya Board of School Education declared the results for class 10 board (SSLC) exam and class 12 (HSSLC) Arts stream students on Tuesday. The results are now available on the board’s official website mbose.in and can be downloaded as a PDF booklet.

Earlier, the results of 20 toppers of SSLC were leaked on Facebook on Monday night, a day before its official declaration by MBoSE, which was confirmed by the board’s controller of examinations, T.R. Laloo. The MBoSE is probing the source of the leak.

“It is unfortunate. It never happened. It could be possible that the websites which have the results were hacked. We are talking to the technical experts to find out the reason,” The Shillong Times quoted Laloo as saying.

The official said he came to know that it was leaked on Facebook and “some people who were close to us also told us that it happened, the report adds. It also said that the Meghalaya board took the matter with the technical personnel of MBoSE and denied it as an inside job.

The result for Meghalaya Board class 12 Science, Commerce, and Vocational stream students were already declared on 8 May.

The result will also be available through SMS in mobile phones.

The board has also introduced QR codes in its internet and original mark sheets so that the authenticity of the result could be easily verified using the MBoSE app which is available on Google Playstore for free.

The pass percentage for SSLC results among regular students is 79.90 with boys’ percentage at 80.84,while girls is at 79.12. About 18,326 regular students cleared the exams out of 23,033. The overall pass percentage is 54.04.

Duyu Asung from Shillong topped the exam with 568 marks.

Hundreds of pupils made to re-sit 11-plus after exam leak

Hundreds of pupils are being made to re-sit an 11-plus exam after it was revealed some questions had been leaked in advance.

Investigations are being made into claims some children in Plymouth had seen the exam paper before taking the test.

Devon and Cornwall Police said no action will be taken against the alleged security breach, but the exam board G L Assessment is continuing its own inquiry.

The maths and English papers were taken by students hoping to gain places at two grammar schools in the area, Devonport High School for Girls and Plymouth High School for Girls.

Some 400 girls will be made to re-sit the tests after earlier examinations were declared “null and void”.

A letter sent to parents by Plymouth City Council said: “At least one of the papers has been compromised.”

Some pupils reacted to the news positively, however, claiming the second try could help them achieve a higher mark.

Daisy Adams, from Plymouth, told the BBC: “I’m very happy because I might get a better score than I was going to get.”

Her mother, Sharyn Partridge, said: “The re-taking is the best way forward, its the fairest option for all the girls involved.

”It’s none of the girls fault what’s happened. Everyone re-takes and everyone has a fair chance.“

GL Assessment, which provides the tests, said: “Schools and authorised personnel have a legal duty to abide by our strict security protocols and we would like to reiterate that any breach of that duty will be dealt with.”

Panama Papers: China reportedly blocks blog site Medium after post about leak went viral

Medium, which allows users including companies and media outlets to post blogs that readers can annotate, has been inaccessible since at least early this week, according to internet users in China and tests by Reuters news agency using tools developed by anti-censorship watchdog GreatFire.org.

It was not immediately apparent why Medium was blocked.

China’s internet regulator did not respond to a faxed request for comment and San Francisco-based Medium did not respond to emailed questions either.

Last week, a Medium post about the Panama Papers leak, detailing the offshore wealth of various countries’ leaders and their relatives, including China’s, was widely shared on Chinese social media.

China has moved to limit access to coverage of the matter and has censored online reports about it.

Medium had focus on China publishing

Medium last week said more than a dozen media outlets would start publishing on its site, an arrangement that would have allowed publications whose websites are blocked in China to reach users in the country.

If confirmed, Medium would join a range of sites already blocked in China, including the blogging platforms WordPress and Google’s Blogger.

The websites of several major media outlets were also blocked, including those of the Economist and Time, which both become inaccessible last week after they ran articles critical of President Xi Jinping.

Under Mr Xi, the Government has tightened control on the internet and sought to codify that policy in the law.

Officials said internet restrictions are needed to ensure security in the face of rising threats, such as terrorism.

Foreign governments and business groups have pointed to restrictions on the internet as a broader trade issue.

On Friday, a US business lobby said internet restrictions were hampering business and that the free flow of information was critical to China’s effort to promote innovation.

Bengal snaps internet in 9 districts to stop leak of board exam questions

In a first, the West Bengal government suspended internet services for three and a half hours in about 50 community blocks in nine districts to stop leak of question papers for the state secondary board’s class 10 Madhyamik examination that started on Tuesday.

Providers of both mobile and broadband internet services have been asked to suspend operations from 11.30 am to 3 pm on all days when exams will be held. The exams will end on February 27.

Education department officials who did not want to be identified said districts where the action has been taken are Malda, Murshidabad, North and South Dinajpur, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Birbhum, Alipurduar and West Burdwan.

A total of 10,15,888 students are appearing for the exams this year. The number has gone down by 33,000 since 2019, Kalyanmoy Ganguly, president of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Examination, told the media. “Students will not be allowed to carry mobile phones and smart-watches. Even teachers are not allowed to use smartphones and smart watches during the exams,” he said.

Significantly, neither the state government nor Ganguly made any official statement on the suspension of internet services. “I have no comments to make,” said Ganguly.

HT, however, accessed a written order signed by a district magistrate in south Bengal on February 17.

The step was taken in view of the leak of question papers in several districts last year. The malpractice was discovered when images of English, Bengali, history and geography question papers surfaced on social media on consecutive days.

The criminal investigation department (CID) of the state police took up the investigation after Ganguly lodged a complaint. Several people including two students were arrested.

Mi Mix 3 is expected to be one of the upcoming smartphones from Xiaomi. While there may be some time left before there is any official announcement regarding the upcoming handset, a number of leaks surrounding the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 have already started to surface on the Internet. A leaked teaser had previously suggested that the smartphone will launch in September this year. Following in the footsteps of Oppo and Vivo, Xiaomi is also rumoured to be designing the Mi Mix 3 with a pop-up camera. Meanwhile, a new report has leaked the pricing details of the Mi Mix 3. Additionally, a new Ferrari Edition of the smartphone is also expected to arrive along with the original variant. Separately, a Xiaomi wireless charger has been certified by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and it may launch alongside the Mi Mix 3.

As per report by Android Pure, Xiaomi will launch a standard variant of the Mi Mix 3 and a premium model with a ceramic back. In terms of specifications, both the models will be identical, including the pop-up camera. Also, the smartphone will reportedly be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. According to the leak, the Xiaomi Mi Mix may ship in two variants with one variant featuring an under-display front camera and one featuring a pop-up camera. Some leaked images allegedly show that the company will replace the pop-up camera module with a front-facing camera that is hidden within the display.

In terms of pricing, the 6GB RAM/ 64GB inbuilt storage variant will cost $510 (roughly Rs. 35,100) for Standard Edition and $660 (roughly Rs. 45,400) for Ceramic Edition. The 6GB/ 128GB variant will be priced at $555 (roughly Rs. 38,200) for the Standard Edition and $705 (48,500) for the Ceramic Edition. Meanwhile, the 8GB/ 128GB model will cost $600 (roughly Rs. 41,300) for the Standard Edition and $750 (roughly Rs. 51,600) for the Ceramic Edition. Finally, the 8GB/ 256GB variant will be available for $645 (roughly Rs. 44,400) for the Standard Edition and $795 (roughly Rs. 54,700) for the Ceramic Edition.

Apart from these variants, Xiaomi is also reportedly planning to launch a Ferrari Edition of the Mi Mix 3. If launched, it will take on the Oppo Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition. As of now, there is no information of the specifications of this variant, though we can expect an upgrade in terms of design, battery and inbuilt storage.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi may also launch a wireless charger alongside the Mi Mix 3. It had first launched a Mi wireless charger alongside the bezel-less Mi Mix 2S. As spotted by tipster Roland Quandt, the Wireless Power Consortium has just certified a wireless charger made by the company. Since Mi Mix 2S is the only smartphone from the company that supports Qi wireless charging, it is expected that the upcoming Mi Mix 3 launch may see the new wireless charger as well.

Moto E5, Moto E5 Plus Design Tipped in New Image Leak

Motorola is all set to launch its next smartphones in the E-series and G-series this year. While there has been a lot of hype created around this week’s launch event of Moto G6, Moto G6 Play, and Moto G6 Plus, the Lenovo-owned company may also be ready with two other smartphones – Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus. Rumours surrounding the two handsets have been doing the rounds for a while now, but now we have a good look at what they might look like.

The Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus, the successors to Motorola’s Moto E4 handsets might be just around the corner as images of both the handsets have been leaked, including a Gold colour variant. Noted tipster Roland Quandt from WinFuture has posteda series of images of both Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus. Notably, specifications of the smartphones have not been revealed in the latest leak. However, the images provide some insight into what to expect from the handsets.

As per the leaked images, the Moto E5 appears to come with only one camera at the back but the Moto E5 Plus seems to ship with a dual-camera setup with LED flash. The smartphones have included the 3.5mm headphone jack at the top of the handset. While we are not sure what material is the phones made of, but the Moto E5 smartphones appear to come in Gold, Black, and Grey coloured variants. The design is similar to another leaked render that was reported last month.

Exactly what specifications we will find inside the smartphones remain unclear as of now. The Plus version of the Moto E5 may sport a bigger display and battery, but we do not know for sure. The Moto E4 Plus packed a bigger battery than the Moto E4.

From what we know so far, the Moto E5 Plus was recently spotted on a benchmark site that revealed some of the specifications of the smartphone. It is expected to include 3GB of RAM, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC (MSM8937) clocked at 1.4GHz, and Android 8.0.0 Oreo. Previous reports had also suggested that the Moto E5 Plus will sport a 5.8-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display and dual rear camera setup with a 16-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary sensor, coupled with f/1.75 and f/2.0 aperture respectively.

While not much is known about the Moto E5, another variant is also expected in the lineup – Moto E4 Play. We will have to wait for the launch event to know more details about the upcoming smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ have been leaked in new sets of renders, purporting to provide a 360-degree view of Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone duo. The renders indicate the fingerprint sensor will be shifted from where it was on the Galaxy S8 – adjacent to the rear camera – to below the rear camera lens. The design has otherwise largely remained the same from the previous generation. Alongside, another render shows an abandoned, more ambitious design for the Galaxy S9, while alleged front panels of the smartphone duo have also made it to the Internet.

Tipster @OnLeaks has shared the leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Do note that these are CAD-based renders and are not actual images of the smartphones. We had earlier reported that the Galaxy S9 will have an improved Iris scanner this time around.

The design of the Galaxy S9, in the OnLeaks renders shared by 91Mobiles, are similar to the Galaxy S8 (Review) we saw last year. There is a bezel-less display on the front, which might have slightly thinner bezels compared to last year’s Galaxy S8. Renders also show that the Galaxy S9 will not sport a dual-camera setup on the rear, a feature that appears to be exclusive to the Galaxy S9+.

There is also a change in the position of the fingerprint sensor. While it remains on the rear of the device, the sensor has been shifted from the right of the camera lens to below it. This might be a decision taken to make it more ergonomic for the user. The sighting of a fingerprint sensor on the back also means that an in-screen fingerprint reader won’t be featured on the Samsung Galaxy S9.

A heart-rate sensor and a single-LED flash can also be seen on the right side of the rear camera sensor. Renders reveal a USB Type-C port, primary microphone, loudspeaker, and a 3.5mm jack on the bottom. There is also a volume rocker on the left and a power key on the right of the Galaxy S9. The phone is said to have a 5.7-inch display, and feature a bottom bezel just 0.1mm thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S8. The smartphone is said to measure 147.6×68.7×8.4mm.

As for the leaked OnLeaks renders of the Samsung Galaxy S9+ shared by MySmartPrice, we see an identical design, except for the use of vertical dual rear camera setup. The phone measures 157.7×73.8×8.5mm and comes with a 6.1-inch screen, with top and bottom bezels said to be 0.1mm thinner than the Galaxy S8+.

Separately, Tipster Ice Universe has shared a set of renders showing what are claimed to be the smaller-bezel design Samsung abandoned for the Galaxy S9, alongside the design it is going ahead with, which look similar to the Galaxy S8. The tipster also shared an image of the purported front panels of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, which again show a design similar to the current Galaxy S-Series flagships.

HBO Hack: No Game of Thrones Material in Latest Leak

Hackers continue to pester HBO, but didn’t release any material related to the network’s hit show Game of Thrones in their latest leak.

The hackers, who broke into HBO’s computer network and have been doling out stolen information for the past several weeks, released more unaired episodes, including several of the highly anticipated return of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which debuts in October.

The latest dump includes Sunday night’s episode of Insecure, another popular show, and what appear to be episodes of other lower-profile shows, including Ballers, the unaired shows Barry and The Deuce, a comedy special and other programming.

The network acknowledged the hack in late July, and the thieves have been dribbling out stolen video and documents since then while demanding a multimillion-dollar ransom .

They have leaked Game of Thrones scripts, sensitive internal documents like job offer letters and a month’s worth of emails from a programming executive. But the intrusion has so far fallen well short of the chaos inflicted on Sony when the studio was hacked in 2014.

Still, the criminals may be holding on to more damaging data – both intellectual property, like unaired programming, and sensitive personal information of HBO employees – that they can use as leverage to try to get money from HBO, said Gartner analyst Avivah Litan.

“It’s kind of like kidnap and ransom and torture,” she said. “Eventually HBO may have to give in.”

In an emailed statement Sunday, HBO said it’s “not going to participate” in what it described as attempts to generate attention by dropping “bits and pieces of stolen information.” The company added that it was not in communication with the hackers. It has said previously that it doesn’t believe its email system as a whole was breached.
