Niantic’s Asian General Manager Yoshiji Kawashima and Asian General Marketing Manager Kenji Suka are reported to have commented: “I hope you are looking forward to this huge event this summer.
“Please look forward to it. Engineers are working hard now so that new functions can be implemented.”
July is the month being thrown around as when the new Legendary update will be released, and a great way for the team to celebrate the game’s anniversary.
Raids will be the new mechanic in which fans will be able to unlock the Legendary types, with players needing to work together to catch the likes of Zapdos, Articuno and Moltres, depending on which Team they belong to.
New Pokemon Go update are being planned for launch by Niantic
Niantic have now confirmed that they have two new special Pokemon Go updates set for launch, one coming in spring and another planned for the summer.
Fans already knew that new content and features were being planned for launch in the coming weeks and now the development team have revealed more on what will be released after that.
The Pokemon Go Easter Event is separate from both, providing big bonuses to the game over the next five days.
It looks set to be followed by a much bigger Pokemon Go update, which will focus on bringing a new co-op experience to the popular Android and Apple game.
“We continue to be inspired by the passion of the 65+ million people from around the world playing Pokemon Go each month,” a message from Niantic explains.
“We’re still at the beginning of the journey and there’s a lot more to come.
“With spring arriving in the northern hemisphere, players can look forward to all new cooperative social gameplay experiences in Pokemon Go that will give Trainers new and exciting reasons to get back into the sunshine.”
It’s still unknown what this new social gameplay will be, however, recent leaks do point to new Pokemon Go news that’s been discovered
This includes a Gym revamp, and a new raids systems, which has been rumoured to be a big part of the coming Pokemon Go changes.
The Pokemon Go spring update could be the first phase, adding new Gym gameplay mechanics that will change how you interact with your Pocket Monsters who are placed in one.
Players will apparently be able to monitor their Pocket Monsters that are away guarding Gyms, this will include notifications on battles that they have either won or lost.
Other new features will also reportedly include having to feed your Gym Pokemon with berries, although it’s unclear if this will extend to the ones already present in the game, or a new special kind.
Additional rewards will also be attached to owning Gyms, and may even feed into a wider social system that will see global goals set by Niantic.
This will reportedly be followed by the wider raids system going online this summer, and sounds like a natural extension of the daily rewards system, giving players something to do as an alternative to just hunting Pocket Monsters.
Nothing has been leaked on how the mechanics behind a raid will function, however, it seems likely that Niantic will use it as a way to introduce Legendary Pokemon.
Nothing has been confirmed by Niantic as of yet, however, new information was provided via a new interview with some staff members.
According to a recent translation of the K-Tai Watch interview, Niantic’s Japanese Staff Yoshiji Kawashima, Asian General Manager, and Kenji Suka, Asian General Marketing Manager, confirmed that a big summer event is being worked on.
No further details were shared other than the new Pokemon Go update would be like nothing the development team have ever done before.
The Pokemon Go Easter Event will be followed by TWO new updates
In terms of an end date, the Pokemon Go Easter Eggstravaganza event is only running for a week, which means it finishes on April 20 at 9pm, UK time.
Lucky eggs are also available at a discounted price, selling at 50% off for the duration of the event, and also providing players the opportunity of stacking them to get X4 the XP.
