Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 gets an update as company seeks 25 testers

Xiaomi introduced the Mi Mix 3 slider with a ceramic back and promised a global arrival, but not before it gets beta testers to clear out any bugs. The company relaunched today its Global Mi Explorer Program, which is aiming to recruit 25 people across the globe to test the newest Mi Mix 3.

To be part of the program, you have to be a registered member of the Mi community. Then you should just follow the link provided in Source below. The company has prepared “series of missions” specially designed for Mi Explorers, and then select the lucky 25 participants. Application are accepted until Sunday, and all qualified applicants should receive an email by December 10.

While the company is gathering its fans, it also launched an update to its Mi Mix 3 devices in China. The latest package with version number MIUI 10.0.12.0 weighs about 2.1 GB and brings slider sound effects, fixes some slider settings and takes care of bugs. They all can be found in the Settings menu under Slide Settings.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Forbidden City Edition goes on sale in December

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Forbidden City Edition is going on sale in December (the company didn’t specify an exact date). It will cost CNY 5,000 ($720/€630). That’s the same price as the 8/256GB model (the base 6/128GB model is CNY 3,300).

This special edition will pack 10GB of RAM (the first model in the Mix 3 lineup to do so). Also, it’s a different kind of blue – it’s inspired by the ceramic vases of one of the ruling dynasties of China. Fitting as the back of the phone is made of ceramic.

Also, there’s a gold inlay of a mythical create on the back of the phone. The Forbidden City retail package will come with a cool case that features an even bigger rendition of the beast and you’ll get a statuette of it, a scale version of those found in the eponymous city (the statuette is plated with 24K gold).

The case also includes a 10W wireless charger, but all Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 models have it.

Mi Mix 3 is expected to be one of the upcoming smartphones from Xiaomi. While there may be some time left before there is any official announcement regarding the upcoming handset, a number of leaks surrounding the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 have already started to surface on the Internet. A leaked teaser had previously suggested that the smartphone will launch in September this year. Following in the footsteps of Oppo and Vivo, Xiaomi is also rumoured to be designing the Mi Mix 3 with a pop-up camera. Meanwhile, a new report has leaked the pricing details of the Mi Mix 3. Additionally, a new Ferrari Edition of the smartphone is also expected to arrive along with the original variant. Separately, a Xiaomi wireless charger has been certified by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) and it may launch alongside the Mi Mix 3.

As per report by Android Pure, Xiaomi will launch a standard variant of the Mi Mix 3 and a premium model with a ceramic back. In terms of specifications, both the models will be identical, including the pop-up camera. Also, the smartphone will reportedly be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. According to the leak, the Xiaomi Mi Mix may ship in two variants with one variant featuring an under-display front camera and one featuring a pop-up camera. Some leaked images allegedly show that the company will replace the pop-up camera module with a front-facing camera that is hidden within the display.

In terms of pricing, the 6GB RAM/ 64GB inbuilt storage variant will cost $510 (roughly Rs. 35,100) for Standard Edition and $660 (roughly Rs. 45,400) for Ceramic Edition. The 6GB/ 128GB variant will be priced at $555 (roughly Rs. 38,200) for the Standard Edition and $705 (48,500) for the Ceramic Edition. Meanwhile, the 8GB/ 128GB model will cost $600 (roughly Rs. 41,300) for the Standard Edition and $750 (roughly Rs. 51,600) for the Ceramic Edition. Finally, the 8GB/ 256GB variant will be available for $645 (roughly Rs. 44,400) for the Standard Edition and $795 (roughly Rs. 54,700) for the Ceramic Edition.

Apart from these variants, Xiaomi is also reportedly planning to launch a Ferrari Edition of the Mi Mix 3. If launched, it will take on the Oppo Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition. As of now, there is no information of the specifications of this variant, though we can expect an upgrade in terms of design, battery and inbuilt storage.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi may also launch a wireless charger alongside the Mi Mix 3. It had first launched a Mi wireless charger alongside the bezel-less Mi Mix 2S. As spotted by tipster Roland Quandt, the Wireless Power Consortium has just certified a wireless charger made by the company. Since Mi Mix 2S is the only smartphone from the company that supports Qi wireless charging, it is expected that the upcoming Mi Mix 3 launch may see the new wireless charger as well.

While it was previously rumoured that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will come with a notch on the upper-right corner for a selfie camera, Xiaomi has now confirmed that the upcoming smartphone will not feature a front-facing camera on top – unlike many other Chinese offerings. The company on Monday released some teasers of the Mi MIX 2S that confirm the absence of the awkward notch. The teasers also showcase the front view of the new handset that appears to be similar to its predecessor. Separately, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun revealed free round trips to Paris for select guests attending the Mi MIX 2S launch on March 27.

As per the teaser images, which are posted on Weibo, has roped Chinese-Canadian celebrity Kris Wu as the brand ambassador for the Mi MIX 2S launch. The images show Wu holding the Mi MIX 2S. If we take a closer look at the images, these reveal the near-bezel-less display – with no room for a top-side selfie camera. This counters the initial set of leaked images. At the same time, the absence of the top notch for the selfie camera suggests that the Mi MIX 2S will have a front panel similar to the last year’s Mi MIX 2.

We presume that the Mi MIX 2S will come with a front-facing camera on the bottom bezel that appears to have enough space for a sensor. However, if this would be the design, the Mi MIX 2S will likely to force you to take selfies in a landscape mode (vertically) instead of a portrait mode. Some Mi MIX 2 users complained about this odd experience in the past.

Alongside the release of the Mi MIX 2S teasers, CEO Jun on Weibo announced that 10 guests attending the smartphone launch will get free round trips to Paris to visit Centre Pompidou in France by Xiaomi. The modern art museum, which is the largest in Europe, will host the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S as well as the Mi MIX 2 and the original Mi MIX.

According to some ongoing rumours, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will feature a 5.99-inch display, 12-megapixel dual rear camera setup, Snapdragon 845 SoC, and a 4400mAh battery. It is also expected to include wireless charging support and might come with an under-display fingerprint sensor. A leaked image of stickers for the retail boxes of the Mi MIX 2S points at 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. Furthermore, previous teasers suggested AI camera features, enhanced slow-mo mode with 4K video recording support, and faster autofocus experience than the previous Mi MIX models.

Indeed, we need to wait for some more days to get all the official details about the Mi MIX 2S.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S has been a part of rumours for a long time. But earlier this week the company confirmed that the handset with a Snapdragon 845 SoC will debut on March 27. And now, it’s time for a screenshot that reveals the new Mi MIX variant’s bezel-less design – without any notch or space for a front-facing camera sensor. The leaked screenshot also features some of the key specifications of the upcoming smartphone that match with the previous reports. In another piece of news, Xiaomi is said to be developing the Mi 7 with a similar wireless charging technology that was adopted by Apple for the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus.

The alleged Mi MIX 2S screenshot, which has surfaced on Weibo, displays the MIUI About screen, showing the presence of a Snapdragon 845 SoC, a 4400mAh battery, a 16-megapixel primary camera sensor, a 6.01-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) display, and 8GB of RAM. The screenshot in question also highlights 256GB of onboard storage on the smartphone that is rumoured as the Mi MIX 2S. All these aren’t any new specifications and are the ones that were leaked through some other sources in the past.

Having said that, the screenshot comes with rounded corners, suggesting a symmetrical display panel of the Mi MIX 2S. This is unlike the lately released render that showed a selfie camera on the top-right corner of the device. Notably, the Mi MIX 2 arrived with a similar symmetrical display panel, though it had a front-facing camera sensor on the bottom, which didn’t impress some users, and the company even recommended to hold the smartphone in landscape mode to capture selfies.

While Apple brought the trend of using a notch for the front camera module, some companies are exploring other opportunities as well. Vivo, for instance, at MWC 2018 showcased its APEX concept phone with an elevating selfie camera that rises and retracts from the top to give space to the ultra-thin display bezels.

We need to wait for some more weeks, until the launch date of the Mi MIX 2S, to see how Xiaomi will position the front camera sensor. Meanwhile, we can certainly expect some more rumours and leaks of the device.

Alongside the Mi MIX 2S, the Xiaomi Mi 7 is also a part of the rumour mill nowadays. The smartphone was already expected to come with a Snapdragon 845 SoC and is now rumoured to support wireless charging with 7.5W power, matching the wireless charging support of the latest iPhone models. China’s Chongdiantou reports that Xiaomi has started testing the new support.

Xiaomi joined the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) in September last year to start offering Qi standard-based wireless charging technology on its devices. That development is likely to be leveraged to make the Mi 7 a competitive offering against the iPhone X and its siblings. The handset is rumoured to use the same Broadcom chip and NXP transmitter that Apple used last year to deliver 7.5W wireless charging. It is expected to be based on the Qi Specification Version 1.1.

The Mi 7 is rumoured to feature a 6.01-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio, 6GB or 8GB RAM options, and dual 16-megapixel rear camera sensors. A Weibo post suggests that the handset could come with an under-display fingerprint sensor, much like the Vivo X20 Plus UD that was launched last month.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s launch is set for March 27, and Chinese company has released a new teaser about the flagship smartphone. We already knew the smartphone would be powered by Qualcomm’s new top-of-the-line mobile processor, the Snapdragon 845 SoC, recently seen unveiled in the Samsung Galaxy S9and Galaxy S9+, apart from the Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. The company’s teaser doesn’t reveal anything knew, but just reconfirm the use of the Snapdragon 845 SoC – one of the smartphone’s biggest highlight.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s teaser, posted on Chinese video sharing website MiaoPai.com, spells out the 8, 4, and 5 of the Snapdragon 845 SoC in sign language. Not much else has been teased by the company yet, beyond the AnTuTu score (273741) – back when it had announced the March 27 launch. We can of course expect the smartphone to take forward the bezel-less design of the original, pioneering Mi MIX, launched back in October, 2016 as a concept phone. Its successor – the Mi MIX 2 – was launched as a commercial device in September last year.

The first leak of the Mi MIX 2s had indicated it would be feature an iPhone X-like notch on top of the display, for the same purpose as the Apple smartphone – to fit the host of front facing sensors modern smartphones employ, including the front camera and proximity sensor. The reported move to follow Apple’s design decision would be controversial, not in the least because Xiaomi poked fun at the Cupertino giant at the launch of the Mi MIX 2.

More recent leaks claim the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2s would sport an under-display fingerprint sensor, and moves the ‘notch’ to the right side – a design different from the iPhone X, which has it in the centre. It was also tipped to sport a 5.99-inch display, up to 8GB of RAM, 12-megapixel dual camera, 256GB of built-in storage, and support for global 4G LTE bands. It is said to bear a 4400mAh battery – though another leak claims it bears a 3400mAh battery, and adds that AI features will be brought to the camera. Xiaomi has announced deals on several of its smartphones on the eve of Singles’ Day sales in China. The Singles’ Day sales happen every year on 11th of November (11/11) and see a lot of companies offering discounts on their products on Ali Express, and is majorly promoted by Alibaba Group.

The Chinese company is offering discounts on Mi MIX 2 and Mi 6 premium smartphones as well as Xiaomi Mi A1 and Mi Max 2 alongside other popular smartphones like Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. Interested users can check the deals on this page.

Xiaomi’s Singles’ Day deals on smartphones

During the Singles’ Day, Xiaomi is offering the Mi MIX 2 at a discounted price of $490, down from original price of $612. The Xiaomi Mi 6 flagship smartphone will be also available with discounted price. The company is offering Mi 6 at $369. Xiaomi, however, will be offering the smartphones in limited supply. The Xiaomi Mi A1 will be available at $195 while the Mi Max 2 will be on sale at $218.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 will be available at $137. The company will also be selling the 3GB RAM models of the Redmi Note 4. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A 16GB model will be available at $99 while the 32GB storage model will be available at $136.

The Redmi 4X will be available at $116 while the recently unveiled Mi A1 Android One smartphone will be sold at $244.

Xiaomi’s Singles’ Day on other devices

Xiaomi is also offering deal on its Notebook Air 13.3 which will be available at a discounted price of $799 which is almost a cut of $200. The Mi Band 2 will be sold at $21 during the Singles’ Day sale.

Bezel-less smartphones are arguably the biggest trend in the smartphone market right now, and Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, the successor to the smartphone that started it all, will launch in India today. The launch event is expected to kick off at 12pm IST, and as always, Gadgets 360 will have live updates from the event, and full details about Mi MIX 2 price in India, release date, and everything else. The smartphone has already been confirmed to be a Flipkart-exclusive, though it will obviously be available directly from Xiaomi as well.

To recall, the Mi MIX 2 was launched in China last month alongside the Xiaomi Mi Note 3. Notably, the Mi MIX 2 India launch will be the first premium smartphone the Chinese firm has brought to India since the Xiaomi Mi 5 back in March last year.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 price in India

The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 was unveiled in three RAM and storage variants – 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 32,300), 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage at CNY 3,599 (roughly Rs. 35,300), and 6GB RAM/ 256GB storage at CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs. 39,200). The company had also unveiled the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Special Edition 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage, and a full ceramic body, at CNY 4,699 (roughly Rs. 46,000). However, this last model is unlikely to be launched in India, at least on Tuesday – as it has yet to go on sale in China, where it will be made available to buy in November. Price in India of Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is likely to be similar to what we saw in China.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 features

As for the features, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2’s biggest highlight is, of course, its bezel-less display. It sports a 5.99-inch full-HD (1080×2160 pixels, 18:9 aspect ratio) LCD display with a pixel density of 403ppi and support for DCI-P3 colour gamut. There is no ‘upper lip’ above the display, and the front camera has been relegated to the ‘bottom lip’, a design decision that Xiaomi had used with the last Mi MIX as well. The smartphone is lighter, smaller, and thinner than its predecessor. Featuring a ceramic body, the smartphone has a frame built out of 7-Series aluminium apart from an 18K gold plated camera ring. Another major highlight is ‘hidden sound-guided speaker’ that resonates sound through the display and frame, completely hiding the speaker itself. Finally, the company is also touting facial recognition technology for unlocking the smartphone.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 specifications

The dual-SIM (Nano-SIM) Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 features a 5.99-inch FHD (1080×2160 pixels) 18:9 display with a pixel density of 403ppi and a DCI-P3 colour gamut. It is powered by a Snapdragon 835 SoC clocked at up to 2.45GHz and coupled with 6GB of RAM – up to 8GB RAM for the Special Edition. It sports a 12-megapixel Sony IMX386 sensor with 1.25-micron pixels, 4-axis optical image stabilisation, 5-piece lens, an f/2.0 aperture, as well as a facial recognition feature. On the front, it bears a 5-megapixel front camera with a facial recognition function.

As for storage, as we mentioned in the price section, there are three inbuilt storage variants, namely – 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. The storage is not expandable. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS/ A-GPS, Bluetooth v5.0, and USB Type-C.

The regular variant of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 measures 151.8×75.5×7.7mm, and weighs 185 grams. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Special Edition on the other hand measures 150.5×74.6×7.7mm and weighs 187 grams. Both variants are powered by a 3400mAh battery. Sensors on board include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, digital compass, gyroscope, and ultrasonic proximity sensor.
