Honor 8C With Display Notch Launch Set for October 11, TENAA Listing Reveals Specifications

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has announced that it is all set to launch the Honor 8C smartphone in China on October 11. The smartphone has been spotted on TENAA as well, revealing most of its specification details. The key highlights of the Honor 8C are the Snapdragon 636 SoC, 4GB RAM, and its dual camera setup. The Honor 8C smartphone is the successor of the Honor 7C launched in March this year, and made available in May in India. The Honor 7C also had dual cameras at the back, and sported Face Unlock capabilities.

Honor has taken to Weibo to confirm the arrival of the Honor 8C in China on October 11. The poster reveals that the Honor 8C will sport a display notch, and support fast charging as well. Furthermore, the smartphone was spotted on TENAA with the model number BKK-TL00, and the listing reveals that the smartphone sports a rear fingerprint sensor, and a 3,900mAh battery. Honor 8C is expected to come in Blue, Black, Purple, Gold colour options.

The listing reveals that the dual-SIM Honor 8C will run on Android 8.1 Oreo based on EMUI 8.1. It features a 6.26-inch (710×1520 pixels) full-HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor with Adreno 509 GPU and 4GB of RAM. Internal storage is at 64GB with the option to expand further using a microSD card slot (up to 256GB).

The Honor 8C also sports a dual camera setup like its predecessor – with one 13-megapixel sensor with LED flash and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel front sensor. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth v5, and GPS + GLONASS. The dimensions measure at 158.72~CHECK~75.94~CHECK~7.98mm, and the Honor 8C weighs 167.2 grams. As mentioned, the Honor 8C packs a 3,900mAh battery.

Realme 2 Pro video teaser claims a “game-changing” experience

Realme 2 Pro, the next model from the house of Realme, is set to debut on September 27. But ahead of its formal launch, the smartphone has now been teased in an official video. The teaser video, titled “Proud to be Young”, confirms the presence of a waterdrop notch design as well as a vertically-placed dual rear camera setup. The video also suggests more power and better performance on the upcoming handset than that of the Realme 2. Further, it highlights a “game-changing” experience. The Realme 2 Pro is expected to come with a new SoC to could help deliver faster results than the Snapdragon 450-backed Realme 2 that was launched in the country late last month.

As per the shots featured in the teaser video that lasts for over a minute, the Realme 2 Pro has a waterdrop notch that already came on various handsets by Oppo and Vivo, including the Oppo A7X and Vivo V11 Pro. This is unlike the Realme 2 that has a regular, rectangular notch, similar to the one arrived on the iPhone X last year. Also, there are thinner bezels and a slimmer chin than what Realme 2 presently has.

In addition to showing the front panel, the teaser video shows the back of the Realme 2 Pro. The back panel seen in the video doesn’t have the company’s notable diamond-cut design that was a part of the Realme 1 and Realme 2. Instead, there is apparently a simple glass panel that has curved edges and includes the Realme branding. The rear view of the Realme 2 Pro also highlights its all-new rear camera setup that is likely to include two sensors larger than the ones on the Realme 2. Plus, you can easily spot the LED flash module as well as the rear fingerprint sensor. There is a circular fingerprint sensor instead of the oval fingerprint sensor featured on the Realme 2.

Apart from the glossy back version, the teaser video also highlights a matte back variant of the Realme 2 Pro. The smartphone also appears to have a 3.5mm headphone jack that sits alongside the USB port and the loudspeaker grill. Furthermore, it is safe to expect some new colour options, too.

We can speculate that since the launch date of the Realme 2 Pro is still some days away, the company could bring new teasers. Price of the new Realme handset hasn’t been revealed formally, though it won’t be as affordable as the Realme 2 that starts at Rs. 8,990.

Moto One Power Alleged Live Images Reveal Display Notch, Vertical Dual Camera Setup

Moto One Power is expected to be Lenovo-owned brand Moto’s upcoming mid-range smartphone with premium specifications like a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC and 4GB of RAM. In a new report, alleged live images of the handset have been revealed that give us a closer look at the Moto One Power. As per the images, the mid-ranger is expected to arrive with a display notch, vertical dual rear cameras, a USB Type-C port, and Android One branding. Launch details and features haven’t yet been confirmed by the phone maker.

In a report by TechInfoBit, the first look at the highly-anticipated Moto One Power has been outed. However, the tipster claims there is confusion around the naming and it might just be called Moto Oneinstead. On the front, the smartphone sports a display with a bezel-less design and a notch on top. The notch is seen to sport the selfie camera and other sensors, including one – possibly – for Face Unlock. Left of the smartphone houses the SIM card tray, which might have dedicated dual SIM slots or a hybrid slot.

On the right, the Moto smartphone has a volume control buttons with a lock/ power button below it. Back of the handset has a vertically stacked dual camera setup with an LED flash between the two sensors, the Motorola logo with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and Android One branding at the bottom. Lastly, on the bottom of the smartphone is a USB Type-C port and dual stereo speakers, as per the report.

Previously, leaks around the Moto One/ Moto One Power have suggested that the phone will get features such as a 6.2-inch full-HD+ (1080×2280 pixels) display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, a Snapdragon 636 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 3780mAh battery. In terms of optics, the rear camera might get a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. On the front, a single 8-megapixel sensor is available for selfies and video calling.

Do note that Motorola or Lenovo haven’t yet confirmed the name or any other details around this smartphone, so it is advised to take all of it with a pinch of salt. That said, we can expect a launch soon, considering the amount of activity around it.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S Won't Include a Selfie Camera Notch, Official Teasers Hint

While it was previously rumoured that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will come with a notch on the upper-right corner for a selfie camera, Xiaomi has now confirmed that the upcoming smartphone will not feature a front-facing camera on top – unlike many other Chinese offerings. The company on Monday released some teasers of the Mi MIX 2S that confirm the absence of the awkward notch. The teasers also showcase the front view of the new handset that appears to be similar to its predecessor. Separately, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun revealed free round trips to Paris for select guests attending the Mi MIX 2S launch on March 27.

As per the teaser images, which are posted on Weibo, has roped Chinese-Canadian celebrity Kris Wu as the brand ambassador for the Mi MIX 2S launch. The images show Wu holding the Mi MIX 2S. If we take a closer look at the images, these reveal the near-bezel-less display – with no room for a top-side selfie camera. This counters the initial set of leaked images. At the same time, the absence of the top notch for the selfie camera suggests that the Mi MIX 2S will have a front panel similar to the last year’s Mi MIX 2.

We presume that the Mi MIX 2S will come with a front-facing camera on the bottom bezel that appears to have enough space for a sensor. However, if this would be the design, the Mi MIX 2S will likely to force you to take selfies in a landscape mode (vertically) instead of a portrait mode. Some Mi MIX 2 users complained about this odd experience in the past.

Alongside the release of the Mi MIX 2S teasers, CEO Jun on Weibo announced that 10 guests attending the smartphone launch will get free round trips to Paris to visit Centre Pompidou in France by Xiaomi. The modern art museum, which is the largest in Europe, will host the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S as well as the Mi MIX 2 and the original Mi MIX.

According to some ongoing rumours, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will feature a 5.99-inch display, 12-megapixel dual rear camera setup, Snapdragon 845 SoC, and a 4400mAh battery. It is also expected to include wireless charging support and might come with an under-display fingerprint sensor. A leaked image of stickers for the retail boxes of the Mi MIX 2S points at 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. Furthermore, previous teasers suggested AI camera features, enhanced slow-mo mode with 4K video recording support, and faster autofocus experience than the previous Mi MIX models.

Indeed, we need to wait for some more days to get all the official details about the Mi MIX 2S.

Android P to Support Notch Design, Offer Deeper Google Assistant Integration: Report

While the tech world is anticipating the next Android version at Google’s I/O 2018, a new report has surfaced that reveals some of the next-generation features that are heading to the new Android iteration. The new version, which is so far in the headlines as Android P, is said to support smartphones with a “notch”, similar to the iPhone X. It is also reported to have a tight Google Assistant integration as well as support for new designs, including multiple screens and foldable display panels, to ultimately convince several iPhone users to switch to Android devices. All this contrasts the next iOS version that is already reported to favour performance and stability instead of offering some major new features.

Google is building an overhaul of its Android platform to start supporting hardware notch natively to compress cameras and other sensors in a single cutout design, reports Bloomberg. The notch design received market focus with the arrival of the iPhone X last year, though Android co-founder Andy Rubin brought the Essential Phone even before the iPhone X launch, particularly in May last year, with a small notch for the front-facing camera sensor. Following the latest iPhone arrival with the notch, some Chinese companies imitated the Apple flagship and brought models such as the Oukitel U18 with a similar top covering. However, Samsung mocked the notch design of the iPhone X in a commercial.

Having said that, Google is now reportedly all set to add notch capabilities into Android. Huawei is likely to be among the first few manufacturers to start using the notch design. Similarly, Moto X5 was rumoured last month with an iPhone X-like notch.

Alongside the notch support, Bloomberg claims that this year’s Android update will expand Google Assistant integration. There are also plans to let developers integrate Google’s voice-based technology within their native apps. Google is also said to integrate the search bar on Android home screen with its personal assistant. However, the Google Assistant availability for developers and its presence in the search bar are yet to be finalised, as per the Bloomberg report.

It is additionally reported that Android P will come with a “dramatic redesign”. This suggests that Google could release Material Design 2 or the next version of its Material Design language to give a fresh look and feel. Moreover, the uplifted design would help the company attract more iPhone buyers to start preferring Android smartphones as their next pick.

Some earlier reports claimed that Android P will come features such as native call recording supportand the ability to allow carriers to hide signal strength. We need to wait until the I/O 2018 to understand what’s cooking up at Google’s labs. The developer conference is taking place between May 8 and May 10 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. Meanwhile, you can expect some more rumours revealing the new features of the next Android version.

Moto X5 Rumoured With iPhone X-Like Notch; Moto Z6, Moto G6 Family Leaked Ahead of MWC

While companies like OnePlus and Vivo already opted for proprietary face unlock features to take on Apple’s iPhone X, Lenovo brand Moto brand is now reportedly preparing an even closer iPhone X competitor that would sport a notch and dual camera setup on the front. The new Moto offering, rumoured to be called Moto X5, is expected to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona next month. The company is also purportedly developing the Moto Z3, Moto Z3 Play, and its first 5G Moto Mod alongside three new Moto G variants, leaked as the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Play. All of these smartphones have been tipped in a leaked renders.

As featured in the first of the leaked marketing render, courtesy Droid Life, the Moto X5 appears to be one of the closest Android-running rivals of the iPhone X. The smartphone has a thin-bezel display panel that has a room for the frontal notch, similar to the one featured on the iPhone X, with two camera sensors on either sides of an earpiece. The camera sensors are likely to be used to take enhanced selfies as well as to enable face unlocking functionality with some advancements over the Face Unlock debuted on the OnePlus 5T and some recent Vivo smartphones, including the Vivo X20 and Vivo V7+. Also, the leaked render points to Moto’s Smart AI and Moto XP that would be some artificial intelligence (AI) powered features to distinguish the user experience.

Interestingly, the rumoured Moto X5 doesn’t appear to have any physical or touch-sensitive button on the front but a white on-screen button very well appears in the leaked render. The on-screen button may offer gesture support to help users navigate from one screen to another. There are also chances that the smartphone could feature an under-display fingerprint sensor to take on the Vivo X20 Plus UD that was lately spotted on TENAA. Besides, the back of the Moto X5 seems to a panel similar to the one came with the Moto X4 last year. It comes with rear-facing two camera sensors and an LED flash.

If we believe the specifications mentioned by the Droid Life folks, the Moto X5 will come with a 5.9-inch FHD+ display that would sport 18:9 aspect ratio.

Similar to the Moto X5, the Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play are also leaked by Droid Life in some renders. Both the new Moto Z series handsets are said to have a 6-inch FHD+ curved display that is touted to be “borderless”. The company is also rumoured to be in plans to launch a third Moto Z3 handset with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. However, it is unclear whether the same SoC would power the Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play as well.

Having said that, the new Moto Z series smartphones appear to have a single on-screen button on the front – similar to the reported Moto X5. The company is also rumoured to be working on a new Moto Mod that would enable 5G connectivity on the new Moto Z family. The 5G Mod is notably mentioned by Moto back in December 2016 to offer super-fast wireless connectivity. It may have a built-in battery pack to make the attached smartphone last for a day, despite offering a high-speed data experience.

In addition to the Moto X5 and the new Moto Z line, folks at Droid Life have also leaked three renders showing the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Play. The new Moto G6 series appears to sport a 3D glass back – similar to the one featured on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge back in April 2015. Among other models, the Moto G6 is rumoured to have a 5.7-inch FHD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and a Snapdragon 450 SoC, coupled with 3GB and 4GB RAM options. The smartphone is also reported to carry 32GB and 64GB storage options. Further, it has 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel camera sensors on the back, while a 16-megapixel camera sensor is featured on the front.

The Moto G6 Plus, on the other hand, is rumoured to have a 5.93-inch display with the same full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) resolution as the Moto G6. It is likely to have the same camera specifications. However, the Plus model will come with a Snapdragon 630 SoC paired with 6GB of RAM, as reported by the online source. The Moto G6 Plus, unlike the other two models, is rumoured to have a 5.7-inch HD display and a massive, 4000mAh battery. Importantly, all the three Moto G series smartphones appear to have a fingerprint scanner on the front that is missing from the new Moto X and Moto Z models.

The Moto G6 is expected to go on sale in the US for around $240 (approximately Rs. 15,300), while the Moto G6 Plus is rumoured to be available at $330 (roughly Rs. 21,000). The latter will come in Deep Indigo, Nimbus, and Dark Lake colour options. Price and availability of all the new Moto smartphones are expected to be announced following their debut.
