Twitch IRL Launched, Takes on YouTube and Facebook With New Way to 'Life Stream'

On Amazon’s streaming game platform Twitch, the world of gaming is being intermingled with real life.

A feature unveiled Thursday by Amazon called IRL – the acronym for “in real life” – lets people broadcast moments from their lives as part of game play.

Amazon called this feature “a new content category designed to both enable and encourage Twitch’s creators to step outside of their traditional gameplay content, and share content captured from their everyday lives.”

The new feature ramps up the capabilities of Twitch, a recent Amazon acquisition known for so-called social gaming and e-sports, or competitive video game play.

Twitch chief executive Emmett Shear said the introduction comes because users “are interested in sharing their everyday lives, thoughts, and opinions with their communities.”

Meanwhile, Amazon Game Studios launched an alpha version of “Breakaway,” its first new title in the hot e-sport arena of video game play as spectator sport.

The game envisioned as heroic characters from myth and legend teaming up to compete in a sort of “game of the gods” inspired by ancient Olympics and Aztec ball courts, studio head Patrick Gilmore said after providing AFP an early look at the game.

Two teams of four players face off online, each represented by a champion ranging from a gunslinger, mage or a knight to a “nuker” named Victor.

Being able to build traps or defenses, and having time between rounds for players to huddle, enhanced the strategic element of the otherwise fast-paced game, a hands-on demonstration showed.

“We look at it as way more of a sport than anything out there,” Gilmore said, referring to the competitive array of e-sports that draw viewers with play streamed in real time.

Breakaway was available for play free through the weekend here.

US online retail giant Amazon snatched up Twitch and its huge audience for live-streamed gaming in 2014.

The purchase was one of the largest in Amazon’s history – $970 million (roughly Rs. 6,576 crores) in cash for the three-year-old Internet company.

Twitch claims the crown as the world’s leading social video platform for gamers, with more than 100 million people using the service to watch and discuss play being streamed live or on-demand.

Twitch.tv lets anyone broadcast game related content and allows them to connect with publishers or advertisers.

Huawei Nova 4 Bezel-Less Design Said to Be Shown Off in Live Stream, Concept Render Released

Huawei has recently been rumoured to be working on its first-ever smartphone with an all-screen design and a hole to fit in the selfie camera, something the company has itself also teased for a December launch. Now, reports claim this may be the Huawei Nova 4, a smartphone that was allegedly shown off by Huawei itself at an event in China during a livestream. Additionally, an alleged promotional poster has been spotted that teases the all-screen design. Lastly, a supposed press render of the Huawei Nova 4 is out, showing a similar design. Let’s delve into the details.

First off, a report by German blog WinFuture.de claims that the front of the Huawei Nova 4 was teased by Huawei on stage at the occasion of the 18th large-scale birthday celebrations of popular Chinese singer Jackson Yee. The phone was showcased for quite some time with the main camera focusing on a close-up shot of the smartphone. The back of the phone was not expectedly revealed in the video, in order to show the major display design change. The live stream can be played back on Iqiyi; the phone is shown from the 35:30 time stamp onwards.

To recall, earlier this week Huawei released a teaser for a December launch of a smartphone with an all-screen display and a small hole on the top left for the selfie camera, and possibly other sensors. The tweet also claims that there will be a battle between Huawei and Samsung (Galaxy A8s) to be the world’s first brand to unveil a smartphone with this kind of a display design.

Lastly, another tipster Ben Geskin, with username @VenyaGeskin1, has published what is seemingly a concept render of the upcoming Huawei Nova 4 with the same design as seen in the video and other leaks. Do note that this is not an official press render, and instead one created on the basis of leaks that have emerged in the past few days.

Oppo Find X is all set to be launched in India today, at an event in New Delhi. To recall, the flagship smartphone was globally unveiled at a Paris event last month, and the Oppo Find X boasted of a novel motorised camera slider mechanism that houses both the front and rear cameras. The aim behind the design decision was to minimise bezels on the display, a trend that has seen choices like the display notch, a front camera on the bottom panel, and even a pop-up front camera. Other highlights of the Oppo Find X include 3D facial recognition, AI-based camera features like a front portrait mode, the top-end Snapdragon 845 SoC, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of inbuilt storage, an all-glass body, as well as fast charging. The launch will be live streamed from 1pm IST, and you can catch the live stream below.

Oppo Find X price

At its launch in Paris, the Oppo Find X price was set at EUR 999 (roughly Rs. 79,000) for its 8GB RAM, 256GB storage variant, known as the Super Flash edition in China, with availability in August. In China, the 8GB RAM, 128GB storage variant was priced at CNY 4,999 (roughly Rs. 51,400). We can expect a similar price point for the smartphone in India, and a release date towards the end of July seems probable, if not in August itself. Oppo is not expected to bring the Oppo Find X Automobili Lamborghini Edition to India, with its limited availability, exorbitant price tag, and almost exotic specifications like 512GB of inbuilt storage and Super VOOC Flash Charge that takes just 35 minutes to fully charge the battery onboard.

Oppo Find X specifications

The dual-SIM (Nano) Oppo Find X runs ColorOS 5.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo, and sports a 6.42-inch (1080×2340 pixels) full-HD+ AMOLED display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 93.8 percent screen-to-body ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 845 SoC with Adreno 630 GPU and 8GB of RAM. It comes with up to 256GB storage, not expandable via microSD card.

As we mentioned, the Oppo Find X sports a motorised camera slider that contains both the front and rear cameras, and rises when needed, including to unlock the smartphone using 3D facial recognition. The company calls its facial scanning tech O-Face Recognition, and like the iPhone X it uses and IR sensor and 15,000 dot projection to better analyse and recognise a face.

The Oppo Find X’s rear dual camera setup features a 16-megapixel primary sensor camera with LED flash, OIS and f/2.0 aperture, and a 20-megapixel secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture. It sports a 25-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture. The smartphone packs a 3730mAh battery with VOOC fast charging. The Super Flash variant in China bears a 3400mAh battery that features Super VOOC Flash Charge, which completely charges the smartphone in 25 minutes. Connectivity options include USB-Type C port, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5 LE, and GPS. The Oppo Find X dimensions measure at 156.7×74.3×9.4mm, and it weighs about 186 grams.

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro will be launched today at an event in Paris. The Huawei P20 Pro is widely expected to be the world’s first smartphone with triple camera setup on the back, while the P20 will have to contend with dual rear cameras. Huawei has been heavily promoting the launch event with the hashtag #SeeMooore, where the three ‘O’s represent the triple camera setup on the back. Both smartphones will also sport the iPhone X-like notch on top. Of course, as is the case with any launch these days, the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro prices and specifications have been leaked online, giving us a pretty clear picture about what we can expect from the smartphones.

Huawei P20 and P20 Pro launch will be live streamed by the company on YouTube. The event is scheduled to start at 3pm CEST (6:30pm IST), and will allow fans to catch all the action from the event in real-time.

Huawei P20, P20 Pro prices

According to recent leaks, the Huawei P20 price will be EUR 649 (roughly Rs. 52,000), and the model will come with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Similarly, the Huawei P20 Pro price is said to be EUR 899 (about Rs. 72,000), and it will reportedly have 6GB RAM and 128GB built-in storage.

Several reports over the past few weeks have leaked specifications of the two upcoming smartphones. It reiterated previous leaks claiming the Huawei P20 Pro will have a triple camera setup — a 40-megapixel primary sensor, a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor, and a 8-megapixel telephoto sensor. Additionally, the camera is said to be Leica branded and feature 5x hybrid zoom, which means that it combines optical and hybrid zoom to get to that level. Also present is a laser autofocus and lenses that have apertures ranging from f/1.6 to f/2.4.

Other leaked features of the P20 Pro include a 6.1-inch display with full-HD+ (1080×2240 pixel) resolution, 1.84GHz octa-core Kirin 970 processor, Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI 8.1, and a 4000mAh battery.

Coming to the P20, the rumour mill says the smartphone will only have a dual camera setup with 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel sensors. However, it will be able to deliver 2x zoom, and retain slow-mo video recording (960fps at 720p) that was originally rumoured on the flagship model. Its front camera system is also claimed to utilise Kirin 970’s NPU to enable ‘Light Fusion’, a feature to enhance selfies.

As for the Huawei P20 specifications, it is said the smartphone will sport a 5.8-inch (1080×2240 pixels) display with an odd 18.7:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by the same Kirin 970 processor as the top model, and run on a 3400mAh battery that support SuperCharge fast-charging technology. It will measure 7.65mm of thickness and weight 165 grams, will use the USB Type-C. However, report say it will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, and will not have an IP67-certified build.

Notably, the Huawei P20 Lite has already been launched by the company, but it may make an appearance at the event too. Apart from that, the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS edition handset may also be announced at the event. The company had indeed teased on Twitter last week a Porsche Design model at today’s launch event.

Honor 9 Lite India Launch Set for Today: Live Stream, Expected Price, Specifications, and More

Honor 9 Lite India launch is set for Wednesday, and will be unveiled at an event in New Delhi. The affordable quad-camera smartphone has been teased for launch in the country since earlier this month, and will be a Flipkart-exclusive. The Honor 9 Lite was first launched in China in late December, and is in fact the second major launch by the Huawei brand in the country this year, following the launch of the Honor View 10 earlier this month. To recall, the View 10 was exclusive to Amazon India. The Honor 9 Lite India launch will be live streamed, and you can check it out below. The launch begins at 12:30pm IST.

Honor 9 Lite expected price in India

Honor 9 Lite price in India can be expected to be roughly around the same as the smartphone’s China price. To recall, in China, the Honor 9 Lite price began at CNY 1,199 (roughly Rs. 11,700) for the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant. Next up, the 4GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant was priced at CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs. 15,600), while the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant ws priced at CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs. 17,500).

Notably however, the Flipkart listing indicates that the Honor 9 Lite’s 4GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant will be not be launched in India. Thus, only the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant and 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variants are expected to be made available in the country. For now, Flipkart has not teased any launch offers.

Honor 9 Lite specifications
The dual-SIM (Nano) Honor 9 Lite runs EMUI 8.0, based on Android 8.0 Oreo, out of the box. It bears a 5.65-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and pixel density of 428ppi. It is powered by a Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 659 SoC (four cores clocked at 2.36GHz, and four cores clocked at 1.7GHz) coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM.

The Honor 9 Lite bears dual camera setups on both the front and back, as we mentioned. In both the front and back, the smartphone sports a 13-megapixel primary camera with a 2-megapixel secondary camera. The rear camera offers PDAF autofocus, apart from LED flash, in addition. The Honor 9 Lite offers with either 32GB or 64GB of inbuilt storage depending on the variant, both of which are expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration.

Connectivity options on the Honor 9 Lite include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro-USB with OTG support. Sensors on board include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, magnetometer (digital compass), and proximity sensor. It is powered by a 3000mAh battery that’s rated to deliver a talk time of up to 20 hours on 3G, and a standby time of up to 24 days – it charges fully in about 2 hours 20 minutes, the company said. It measures 151×71.9×7.6mm, and weighs 149 grams.
