Ever felt like your personal website didn’t feel like enough of a “blog”? Popular website hosting service WordPress.com intends to change that, announcing Thursday that .blog domain extensions will be available for Internet users later this year.
“Just like .com before it, .blog is clear and accessible, and it creates millions of fresh, new options for naming your blog,” WordPress.com said Thursday in an online statement.
The .blog domains will be up for grabs this year, and anyone interested cansign up to get notified when they’re available to the public.
WordPress.com is offering the domain extension “to all websites,” and those interested will not need a WordPress or WordPress.com site to purchase one, according to the statement.
Automattic, the parent company of WordPress.com, secured the rights to .blog domains, which people can purchase at WordPress.com or through their partner domain name registrars.
“With a top-level domain like .blog, you can get a name that truly matches your identity,” WordPress.com said in its statement.
Registration prices for .blog domains are still being finalized, the company said, but they will be “in the standard range for new top-level domains with some premium pricing for higher-value names.”
