IIT admissions 2015: All 903 seats at IIT Bombay taken in the second round of allotment

IIT BombayThe second round of joint seat allocation for admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other technology institutions was concluded on July 17. With the second round of allotment, all 903 seats offered by IIT Bombay were filled up.

After this round, a total of 82 seats were still available across the 18 IITs, there are expected to be filled up in the third round of seat allocation, which began on July 18.

After the second round of joint seat allocation, there was one seat available at IIT Delhi, two at IIT Kanpur and six at IIT Chennai. A total of 10,006 seats are offered by all the IITs combined, the institutes have filled up 99 percent of their seats by the second round of allotment.

Out of the remaining seats, 32 are from ISM Dhanbad, 13 are available at IIT Kharagpur, 35 are from IIT- Banaras Hindu University. There is one seat each available at the institutes in Ropar, Jodhpur, Mandi and Bhubaneshwar. IIT Tirupati and Palakkad, which are starting their academic sessions this year, have only three and nine seats available, respectively.

About 1,000 candidates have been given the option to opt for a better seat in the third round of joint seat allocation. Also, few admissions were cancelled as the students did not meet the eligibility criteria for Class 12 marks or  due to lack of certificates.

Although the admissions to IITs are expected to be over by the third round of allotment, the NITs, IIITs and GFTIs will hold a fourth round of allotment to fill up the remaining 3,700 seats.
