It often happens that students find themselves checking the college notice board for recruitment notices and then forgetting to apply within the deadlines. To address such woes, a fourth-year student of IIT Kharagpur has come up with a mobile app that not only keeps students informed about new recruitment advertisements but also sends reminders about deadlines.
Prudhvi Dharmana, a student of the computer science and engineering department, has developed the ‘CDC Notify’ app which acts like a virtual recruitment notice board and also sends alerts to the students to submit their resumes on time.
“We already have an online notice board where all the recruitments are put up. But it has to be checked constantly to check for updated recruitment notices. Often, students also forget to send in their CVs at the right time. I realised that it would greatly help students if there were an easier way to access the notices through a mobile app which can notify them directly about the notices. Students can add reminders manually to a notice to alert them that the submission deadline is approaching,” Dharmana says.
Android and others
The app is available at the Google PlayStore. Dharmana is considering making it available for the Windows platform. Currently, the app is available only for students of IIT Kharagpur and works within the institute campus. However, he is working on extending the app for the use of students from IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi.
“Since the basic structure of the app is available, it will not take too long to extend the app’s service to other campuses. It should barely take four to five days for the app to be started in other IITs,” Dharmana says.
Launched on August 26, the app has already been downloaded by about 1,000 students.
“I have been successful in developing a user-friendly interface for students, which in the near future can be used to integrate various other essential features such as attendance, applying for an internship, etc. I want this application to be helpful to my batchmates and seniors during the placement season this year. On a much broader scale, I will use the feedback after this placement season to refine this app, and would like to extend this to various other institutions across India to help them with their placement season. After all, every institute (not just the IITs) needs to notify students instantly regarding placements, and I believe that CDC Notify will definitely suit that purpose,” he adds.
