OnePlus 7 Pro receives exclusive update that improves camera, fixes other bugs

The OnePlus 7 Pro was launched earlier this month.

ONEPLUS 7 PRO CAMERA IMPROVEMENTS: OnePlus 7 Pro has started receiving OxygenOS’ newest update that fixes some camera issues and ambient display problem. The OxygenOS 9.5.4 is exclusive to OnePlus 7 Pro, meaning other OnePlus devices would not receive this update. The update is being rolled out in stages so it might not be available on every OnePlus 7 Pro device at the moment. You may expect it in the coming weeks.

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 7 Pro earlier this month. The smartphone was praised for the features it brings at a reasonable price tag, but some users complained about its camera quality. The company promised an update in about a week’s time to fix the issues.

According to the official changelog, the v9.5.4 update fixes issues like unnatural smoothness in beauty effect, lack of details, smudgy areas in telephoto images and more. The update also fixes white balance issue in pictures as well as focus issue in several scenarios.

Apart from this, the update also improves system optimization. That includes a fix for the ambient display, double tap to wake the screen, audio delay with the Bluetooth headset during gameplay and other general bug fixes.

The OnePlus 7 Pro is currently available in two variants – 6GB/128GB priced at 48,999, 8GB/256GB priced at 52,999 in Mirror Grey colour. The OnePlus 7 Pro will be available in an all-new Nebula Blue colour in 8GB/256GB priced at 52,999 and 12GB/256GB at 57,999 from May 28, 2019 on

It features a 6.67-inch Fluid AMOLED display panel with a QHD+ resolution and refresh rate of 90Hz. The display is notch-less and has curved edges, much like the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Huawei P30 Pro. It is powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with three RAM and storage configurations that max out at 12GB/256GB. It comes with a “RAM Boost” mode that allows app to load from RAM memory instead of ROM, hence reducing app load times. It is also the first smartphone to ship with UFS 3.0 memory which offers speeds up to 79% faster than the previous UFS 2.1 standard.

At the back it sports a 48MP+16MP+8MP combination. The 16MP and 18MP sensors have wide angle and telephoto lenses respectively. The front facing pop-up mechanism houses a 16MP camera. The phone is backed by a 4,000mAh battery.

Oneplus 5, OnePlus 5T gets OxygenOS 9.0.4 update

OnePlus has started rolling out a new software update for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users and the new OxygenOS 9.0.4 update brings in some major improvements, bug fixes and January Android Security Patch. OnePlus in a blog post announced on Saturday that the OxygenOS 9.0.4 update has been released for a limited number of users as of now and the broader rollout will reach to all users in the coming days which means if you haven’t received the update notification yet, then you may receive it in the next couple of days.

The biggest highlight of the latest update is the deep integration of Google Duo and network stability. The integration of Google Duo video calling feature has been made across call logs, contacts, dialling pad and messages. The update will make Duo the primary video calling app on the device and the best part is, if users wish to disable it, they may do so by heading to the settings option.

In addition to this, the update brings in network stability, improved stability for OTA upgrades, bug fixes, system improvements and Android Security Patch.

The changelog of OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T OxygenOS 9.0.4 update includes-

  1. Updated Android security patch to 2019.1
  2. Improved stability for OTA upgrade
  3. General bug fixes and system improvements
  4. Deep integration with Google Duo
  5. Improved network stability

OnePlus 5 and 5T users will directly get a notification once the OxygenOS 9.0.4 update is ready for their devices. If you haven’t received the notification then you may head to settings, then tap on System and click on Software updates. Separately, the company recently also revealed that both the devices will also get Android 9 Pie update really soon.

OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T are now receiving Android 9 Pie

OnePlus has over the past few weeks released two beta builds of the Android 9 Pie update for the OnePlus 5 and 5T, and now the stable version is rolling out.

The finalized version of the update is headed to the company’s two handsets from last year. It arrives as OxygenOS 9.0.0, based on Android Pie. It contains the December 2018 security patches too.

When you get the new software, you’ll see the brand new Pie UI, new navigation gestures for the 5T, and you get a new Do Not Disturb mode too, with adjustable settings. Google Lens is integrated in the Camera app, and Gaming mode 3.0 comes with a text notification mode and added notifications for third party calls.

Obviously some unnamed system improvements are baked in as well. As usual, the rollout is staged. It’s going out to a small percentage of users at the moment, and it will expand in a few days.

Thunder Purple variant of OnePlus 6T spotted in online listings

Were you disappointed that the OnePlus 6T is available only in Black and Black? There’s some good news – it seems that a new color version is on the way.

It’s dubbed “Thunder Purple” and was briefly up on Amazon Germany for pre-order. The €580 price matches the 8/128GB version in Midnight Black. It was an option on the official support page as well.

This will be the first purple in the OnePlus lineup. Besides the usual black and gray-ish colors, we’ve had Gold, Red and White. The Amber Red version of the OnePlus 6 was unveiled two months after the phone itself, so we may be in for a bit of a wait before the purple model arrives.

OnePlus 6T reportedly passes Verizon certification

OnePlus is set to launch its mid-cycle refresh after the OnePlus 6 next week in New York City. The company will announce the OnePlus 6T and rumors have surfaced that the GSM unlocked device for the US could support Verizon bands and T-Mobile will possibly sell the device in-stores.

The news comes from where sources claim that the OnePlus 6T has indeed passed Verizon’s certification process so that the unlocked model could be activated on the carrier. Should this be true, it would mark a milestone for OnePlus presence in the United States – which is a big deal for any Chinese company given the current political climate surrounding the US Government’s stance on ZTE and Huawei handsets.

OnePlus 6

On the flip side, we’ve also heard that T-Mobile might be partnering with OnePlus to sell the 6T in T-Mobile stores which exposes OnePlus to the mainstream in the US – since most wireless customers in the US buy their mobiles directly from the carrier.

It seems that Verizon’s certification process has become easier for manufacturers since a proper CDMA radio is no longer required to work with Verizon. CDMA (3G) was a fallback when VoLTE was not available but since Verizon’s coverage is almost purely LTE, this is no longer a problem for phones connected to Verizon.

Razer customers have just recently been having issues getting a Razer Phone 2 activated due to being one of the first CDMA-less unlocked devices for Verizon. We’d imagine a similar kind of situation for the OnePlus 6T, only Verizon should have it figured out by then.

In any case, we’ll be hearing about OnePlus’ plans in the US at their NYC launch event next week on October 29. The phone is rumored to have a smaller notch with a bigger 6.4-inch AMOLED display, a microSD card slot, and a 3,700 mAh battery.

OnePlus will launch 5G smartphone in 2019: Carl Pei

  • The upcoming OnePlus 6T might that will go official later this month might not faeture 5G support. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei at the 4G/5G Summit 2018 in Hong Kong announced that OnePlus will be one of the first companies to launch 5G smartphones next year. He also said that OnePlus and his team had already conducted a 5G test at Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego back in August.
  • This smartphone could be the successor of the OnePlus 6T that will likely arrive in mid-2019. This will likely be powered by the Snapdragon X50 5G modem and the latest QTM052 mmWave antenna module that was introduced today.
  • Several OEMs including ASUS, Fujitsu, HMD Global, HTC, Inseego/Novatel Wireless, LG, Motorola, NetComm Wireless, NETGEAR, OnePlus, OPPO, Sharp, Sierra Wireless, Sony Mobile, Telit, Vivo, WNC, and Xiaomi are commited to 5G in 2019 and most have started testing Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem earlier this year.
  • Qualcomm will be powering the upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 smartphone that will be the first commercial smartphone to support 5G. After Xiaomi and OnePlus, several other companies are expected to launch 5G smartphones in 2019. Qualcomm president Cristiano Amon said that the Qualcomm is expecting at least two major flagships with 5G radio next year, with the first one within the first half of the year, and the other in the holiday season.

OnePlus 6T Global Launch Event to be Held in India?

OnePlus 6T Global Launch Event to be Held in India?

OnePlus 6T India launch could be same day as the global launch

  • OnePlus 6T will allegedly be launched in India on October 17
  • This could be global unveiling of the smartphone
  • OnePlus 6T might sport a triple rear camera setup

OnePlus 6T is doing the rounds on the rumour mill quite frequently these days, with the launch expected in the next few weeks. An interesting piece of information has now surfaced online, showing an alleged invite for the India launch of the OnePlus 6T slated for October 17. Curiously, this invite has appeared on a Chinese social media website and not India, so it may well mean that the OnePlus 6T India launch could be the global unveiling of the smartphone. The invite shows off the new tagline “Unlock The Speed” most likely pointing towards the presence of an in-display fingerprint sensor. New renders of the upcoming flagship are also out that reveal a third camera sensor at the back, a departure from the dual rear camera setup of the OnePlus 6.

The leak comes to us courtesy a user on Chinese social media website Weibo, as reported by WCCFTech. Interestingly, the October 17 date coincides with the date mentioned in the screenshot officially shared by OnePlus with CNET. Apart from the launch date, country, and tagline, the invite gives out no other details around the OnePlus 6T.

The same user has also released two new press renders that show a third camera sensor on the phone’s back. This sensor is slightly separated from the other two sensors, leading us to believe that the OnePlus 6T TV ad in India shows Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan hiding the third sensor in the brief reveal. This is in line with previous leaks suggesting a triple camera setup on the smartphone, which was contradicted by noted tipster Roland Quandt, who said OnePlus will stick to the dual camera setup for its next flagship.

However, as there is no official confirmation on the same, it is advisable to take this piece of information with a pinch of salt. OnePlus might not look to radically change the design considering that this is a mid-year “T” upgrade for its flagship range. Apart from the triple camera setup, a waterdrop-style notch is seen on the front with an in-display fingerprint sensor, as confirmed by OnePlus.

As per what OnePlus has teased, the OnePlus 6T will not sport a 3.5mm headphone jack and instead will come bundled with a pair of USB Type-C earphones. Keeping in mind previous trends, the OnePlus 6T will most likely borrow a Snapdragon 845 SoC and RAM quantity of up to 8GB RAM from the OnePlus 6. It is expected to run Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box.

As for pricing, back in August this year a report had suggested that the OnePlus 6T would continue the higher price trend and sport a price tag of $550 in the US, slight uptick from the OnePlus 6’s base price. OnePlus 6T price in India is not known yet, but it will be exclusive to Amazon India as per a teaser on the e-tailer’s website.

OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T Start Receiving OxygenOS 5.1.3 Update

OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T Start Receiving OxygenOS 5.1.3 Update

OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users have started receiving the OxygenOS 5.1.3 update. Earlier this week, OnePlus 6 had started getting OxygenOS 5.1.8 as a new software update. Specifically for Indian users, the update brought all the features that debuted through the OxygenOS 5.1.7 released last week. That said, the company has clearly not forgotten about its older smartphones – OnePlus 5 and 5T – as it is pushing out an over-the-air (OTA) update for the latest version of OxygenOS for these handsets as well.

OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T are receiving the latest OxygenOS 5.1.3 software update. The file size of the update is around 58MB. Changelog of the update entails system updates but does not include the latest Android security patch. It is just a minor update that comes with a few under-the-hood optimisations and a fix for a security issue with the bootloader – perhaps addressing an issue similar to the OnePlus 6 bootloader vulnerability, which was fixed with the OxygenOS 5.1.7 update. While the security issue has been resolved, it is unfortunate that Google’s June security patch is not included in the latest OxygenOS update.

It is interesting to note that OnePlus had first made the announcement about the rollout of OxygenOS 5.1.3 via a forum post on June 15, only to delete it later. However, the company later released an identical post on June 17. As of now, it is unclear why OnePlus decided to remove its earlier post. Some users had posted grievances about various issues in the latest update, but such complaints are common during the rollout of almost every update.

Meanwhile, the OxygenOS 5.1.3 software update to the OnePlus 5 and 5T also resolves some inconsistencies with the Bluetooth audio for cars. Some users were apparently having stability issues with the connection, but the issue has not been fixed. Additionally, a few other general bug fixes and improvements have also rolled out with the update.

OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T users, who have not received the OTA update, can check by going into Settings > System updates. You can also download the latest OxygenOS ROM through OnePlus forums and install it using the given instructions. As always, users are advised to take a complete backup and ensure that the battery is charged before installing the update.

OnePlus Lab Program lets you get the OnePlus 6 before launch

OnePlus Lab Program lets you get the OnePlus 6 before launch

If you’re someone who just cannot wait to get their hand on the OnePlus 6, there is some very good news for you. The Company is bringing back its ‘Lab,’ a program where select individuals get a chance to review the OnePlus 6. The good part here is that the said individuals get the OnePlus 6 before launch, being some of the first people in the world to review the phone. As part of the Lab program, once you receive the device, you will be able to publish a hands-on video and an in-depth review of the OnePlus 6, influencing the decision of thousand other OnePlus fans. Once the reviews are done, you get to keep the device and call it your own. You will need to submit an application form to be a part of the Lab program, the submission for which is open until May 3, 7:30 AM IST. Of all the submissions, only 15 people will be selected to review the OnePlus 6 ahead of its launch.

Surprisingly, the terms and conditions for the Lab program are simple and straightforward and are listed below:

  • Entries in English Only.
  • If chosen, you agree to complete all requirements on time and in an honest manner; if you are not able to do so, you agree to return the device in its original condition and give your spot to the next candidate.
  • As a reviewer, you agree to provide OnePlus with the free right to use and publish any production materials (video, pictures, articles, etc.) that are generated and submitted during the review period.
  • When you apply, your entry will be added automatically to an internal backup reviewer list. We reserve the right to contact backup reviewers for additional review purposes during the selection period.
  • OnePlus reserves all rights to this event. The views and opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of OnePlus.

What this also means is that if you are not selected ass part of the top 15, there is still a possibility of OnePlus reaching out to you for a review, so don’t lose hope. In addition to the Lab program, OnePlus also announced that they will crowd-source the ideas for the advertisement for the OnePlus 6. The company published a bare-bones advertisement on its YouTube page asking users for suggestions. People can share their ideas by tweeting with #NeverSettleFilm, commenting on the YouTube video, or on the company’s forum. Each time the company likes an idea, it will upload a new video with the idea incorporated, until the final OnePlus 6 ad is complete. In return, those people whose suggestions were used will get their name featured in the end credit of the ad.

The OnePlus 6 is the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone and we know that it will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor paired with 6GB/8GB of RAM. There is also talk of a 256GB storage variant of the device. We know it will sport an 18:9 display with a notch, and in general, will be the fastest smartphone produced by OnePlus. As of now, there is no official word on a launch date or price.

OnePlus 6 Will Be Made of ‘New Materials’, Confirms Company

OnePlus 6 Will Be Made of 'New Materials', Confirms Company

While its formal launch is expected in a few days, OnePlus 6 has now been revealed with an all-new back panel that will likely enable wireless charging support. OnePlus has officially confirmed that the upcoming OnePlus 6 features “new materials”. It is being speculated that the smartphone will come with a glass back panel. A glass back on the OnePlus 6 will make it a closer competitor against the Apple iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9 that both come with glass back panels.

A tweet by OnePlus India hinted the presence of a new back material on the OnePlus 6. “Same expert craftsmanship, new materials #OnePlus6,” the tweet reads. The tweet accompanies an image that shows a glossy black surface with an engraved line that says “Designed by OnePlus”. The black surface could be the glass back panel on the new OnePlus handset.

Unlike the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T that both had an aluminium back, the OnePlus 6 will certainly need to come with a new panel if it has to offer wireless charging – as surfaced in a leaks-based concept video. Companies such as Essential Products and Xiaomi have already used ceramic as the material on their offerings to enable wireless charging, while Apple and Samsung have opted for glass in their respective flagships.

That said, we need to wait for the official launch to understand which new material the OnePlus 6 will feature. The handset will be an Amazon Exclusive in India and is expected to come with a water-resistant build. It will also come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB inbuilt storage.
